Tyres are the only contact point between the bike and the road. The profile and the right pressure - among a few other parameters - determine the amount of grip they have. Depending on the country, the legal thread depth of a motorcycle tyre is either 1.0 or 1.6 mm. You could try to eyeball it, but we'd prefer you use this digital calliper, to be on the safe side.

After a quick calibration with the zero button, you can easily measure the profile of your tyre. You can switch between readouts in mm or inch. The third button turns the device on or off. The battery is included. With a measuring range of 0.0 to 28 mm, this tyre profile gauge is more than adequate.

Although the legal standard is between 1.0 and 1.6 mm, a thread depth of 2 or 3 mm is already considered dangerous under certain circumstances. You may want to start looking for your next set of tyres.
