The Air Plus V2 GTX XCR motorcycle boots seem to serve a dual purpose. They are both exceptionally breathable and waterproof. And that makes them excellent for all-day wear. Something the sporty touring rider or motorcyclist will especially appreciate.
It takes a lot of technology to use mesh materials under a well-ventilated PU-layer, and still make it waterproof. Alpinestars is of course not just some newbie manufacturer, so they succeed wonderfully.
First of all, it makes the Air Plus V2 GTX XCR motorcycle boots visually pleasing: the construction consists of several layers of breathable and perforated materials, some of which obviously also have abrasion-resistant characteristics, finished with a partial PU-layer on the outside of the leg. The inside gets suede on top of the long entry zipper, as a heat resistant shield. The whole thing holds the middle ground between 'sturdy motorcycle boots' and 'yet nicer than you'd expect'. The shaft of just under 30 centimeters makes the Air Plus V2 GTX XCR motorcycle boots tall, although you hardly notice this (especially in terms of weight).
The 'GTX XCR' membrane guarantees 100% dry and fresh feet. ‘XCR' stands for 'Extended Comfort Range', which is a three-layer GORE-TEX membrane that increases the already excellent breathability of Gore-Tex by another 25%.
The rather exceptional combination of waterproof and highly ventilated makes that you can wear these Air Plus V2 GTX XCR motorcycle boots for a long time. Very long.
The impact protection is more subtle than you might expect. Besides the internal shin protector, it's all about concrete reinforcements on the heel, toe and ankles. Alpinestars' rubber compound sole offers the perfect balance of grip and comfort, and one floor up, it's the removable EVA insoles that guarantee comfort yet adequate support.
Dry feet that enjoy a degree of ventilation and stay breathable for a long time slide in and out of a motorcycle boot a little easier anyway. In this case, the long zippers help of course. You find them on the inside, under the suede heat shield, which also prevents wear and tear on your motorcycle.
