The X-Spirit III was developed by Shoei because your helmet shouldn't be a worry if you want to go flat out on the track. You can think 'high performance' with every feature because that would be completely justified. In other words, this is racing material, although the homologation for the public roads (ECE-R 22/05) obviously allows you to ride there as well, maximally protected and carefree. Multiple world champion Marc Márquez – no, really - takes one of these off the shop shelf on his way to his next MotoGP victory.
The outer shell is made from AIM+, an organic, multi-composite glass fiber. The fact that it's designed to be both rigid and shock absorbent is self-explanatory. The different helmet sizes are distributed over no less than four different helmet shells. Compact and comfortable. Tight. On average, you'll be carrying just 1315 grams with the X-Spirit III. Bitterly little for so much high-quality protection.
If you want a world champion to be able to get on with any X-Spirit III without much modification then you need to make sure the helmet is aerodynamic to a spectacular level. The Shoei wind tunnels did their job, with reduced drag and less lift as a direct result. The pressure on shoulders and neck is decreased considerably. At the back you see a stabilizer with 'wings', which reduces the shaking and movement with 50% compared to the previous (X-Spirit II) version. Especially at high speeds - and that's the intention here - there is little better on the market today. Depending on the driving circumstances (slower and curvy or just a lot of fast, straight stretches) you can adjust the size of the 'wings'.
A stable and good view of what's coming is a result of the high-end aerodynamics. But there is more. The position of the helmet can be rotated 4° with respect to its horizontal axis. In this way, every rider determines his optimal field of vision according to his personal riding position. Are you beginning to understand why world champions can just take one off the rack?
Even at very high speeds, you need air. Maybe even more than usual, so the X-Spirit III got six vents on the front. With the help of four easy to operate sliders you can dose the air as you wish. At the back, integrated in the spoiler, again six openings let the air out. For the first time there is also a specific ventilation for the lower half of the helmet. The X-Spirit III is more closed off at the bottom than previous models, in terms of aerodynamics, so work has been done to create a specific airflow which ventilates the rider's cheeks.
The CWR-F Pinlock visor is of course standard. You can expect a visor that meets all possible requirements for a racing visor. Tear-Offs are easy to use and of course the visor has been tested in the wind tunnel, with aerodynamics as a logical result.
The removable, washable and hypoallergenic lining is easy to maintain and modular to allow for individual adjustments. A wide neck rim, adjustable closure by means of a Double-D ring, the E.Q.R.S. (Emergency Microlock System) which allows you to take off the helmet in case of emergency. An included wind deflector, chin spoiler and wind curtain chin. Optional tinted visors. If a world champion can just take a helmet off the shelf, it's because that particular helmet comes standard with all the individual customization options you can think of, and was also designed to be worn by world champions.
The reflective stickers which are obligatory in France to stick on the helmet are included.
For maintenance of this helmet we recommend S100 helmet and visor cleaner for the outside. For cleaning the interior, without removing it, you can use S100 helmet interior cleaner. New visors have received a water-repellent treatment. This treatment is less effective after some time. Restore the water-repellent effect with Rain-X anti-rain spray.
Safety above all! Never ride with a scratched or dull visor. Especially at night, scratches cause blinding reflections from streetlights and headlights of oncoming vehicles. This effect is even more pronounced in rainy weather. It is best to replace a scratched or dull visor as soon as possible. Planning a longer trip? Then don't forget to take a replacement visor with you. Never ride in the dark with a tinted visor.
