Hands and fingers are perhaps the most exposed and vulnerable body parts of a motorcyclist, even more so in harsh conditions. However, they are vital in ensuring you arrive at your destination safely. They are better at that when kept comfortable.
The Oxford Premium Hotgrips are the latest result of a thirty year search for the best solution to keep hands warm in the worst conditions. Besides the 'retro', there are also models with a different style, i.e. touring, sports, adventure, ATV, cruiser.
Retro grips are not only warm, but also ergonomic and soft. The diamond-shaped pattern across the entire surface provides a very good grip and give great feedback from the bike. Handlebar and cable connection are in one piece, ensuring a durable yet discreet appearance. The grip design fits most bikes (length and diameter), though it's relatively easy to go for a shorter size. The grip is 120 mm long, with an open end to allow the fitting of handlebar weights or handguards. That length can be trimmed to 113 mm, if you wish. Power consumption is very economic, with less than 4A per pair.
A weatherproof handlebar-mounted control unit allows easy control and monitoring of the heat setting. This tells you at a glance which of the five possible settings you are using. Should you forget to turn everything off at the end of your ride - in your haste to find some welcoming warmth - the Hotgrips Premium will switch off by itself, thanks to the 'Battery Saving Mode'. There's no need to fit an extra relay either, as this handlebar heater only switches on when there's enough power and energy to do so. That'll usually mean: when the engine is running.
Mounting and installing the Premium Hotgrips is easy. Just connect it to the battery and smoothly slide the grips on the handlebars. In minutes, you're ready to go. Everything you need for this - including the metal base plate for the controller - is included as standard.
It goes without saying that you should read the instruction booklet first. Oh, and heated grips do not provide you with an excuse to ride without gloves.
