The Shoei EX-Zero is something between a jet and a full-face helmet. With a serious retro look and class on top of it, this is a winner from a stylistic point of view. Back to the eighties, but with all modern advantages. And it's a full-face helmet, just to be clear.
Scrambler, vintage or retro, it makes little difference which motorcycle you prefer or what you call it. In all cases, the EX-Zero is an ideal partner. The helmet shell is Shoei-proprietary AIM (Advanced Integrated Matrix), which mainly means that several layers of fiberglass provide good lightweight protection. There are three helmet shells for different helmet sizes, so it's not surprising that Shoei aims for a good fit and compact dimensions. This all results in a pleasant weight of 1150 grams on your head.
The six stripes of chin ventilation - with grille - are cool. Period. You can't open or close them and anyway this is not a helmet for the winter, but that's also not the time to be on the road with scramblers and café racers. The visor is one of the integrated kinds, which is in line with the latter thought. And it doesn't fit completely on the helmet opening. You just open and close it by flipping it up and down. The 80s, when everything was simple. And yet. The CJ-3 visor is transparent (and optionally easy to replace) and good. Thanks to its correct shape, it offers the necessary protection for the eyes without restricting the free feeling of the motorbike and the wind. It is also adjustable in three positions, which allows everyone to adapt the EX-Zero to their own preferences.
The Shoei EX-Zero is subtle but well-finished. Leather trim, snaps that allow you to attach a sun visor, a Double-D ring buckle with comfortable straps. The interior is completely removable and washable.
Classic, with modern advantages. Retro yet almost perfectly customizable. You can easily combine a good pair of cross goggles with the EX-Zero. Even sunglasses work perfectly.
The only thing that doesn't work, in our opinion, is not looking cool.
For cleaning the outside of your helmet we can recommend S100 helmet cleaner. The helmet interior can also be cleaned, without removing it, with S100 interior cleaner. A treatment on the outside of the visor with Rain-X anti-rain spray improves visibility during rain showers.
Safety above all! Never ride with a scratched or dull visor. Especially at night, scratches cause blinding reflections from street lights and oncoming headlights. This effect is even more pronounced in rainy weather. It is best to replace a scratched or dull visor as soon as possible. Planning a long trip? Then don't forget to take a replacement visor with you. Never ride in the dark with a tinted visor.
