The Mantis combines the lightness of a summer jacket with the (leather) safety and looks of a race suit, and throws in a dose of touring waterproofing as well. 'Mantis' is short for 'praying mantis', but this looks more like a chameleon.
Okay, first of all it looks sporty. Short cut, leather, TPU shoulder pads ... those who look a bit further, see a racing jacket. Closer inspection reveals that the Monaco performance cowhide is especially tear and abrasion resistant in the critical areas, while the entire front and back of the Mantis is made from 3D mesh. Just like large sections of the sleeves. This results in a very airy and ventilated whole. A whole that sits (and should sit) nice and tight, something that undoubtedly is also caused by the PWR|Shell stretch pieces.
And who looks a bit closer, can also notice the crystal clear, wind and waterproof 3L hydratex membrane. There's something else to be said about the latter: REV'IT manages to make the membrane feel pleasant against the skin, which definitely improves wearing comfort.
The result is a very versatile jacket. Waterproof, windproof, and sporty. SEEFLEX level 2 CE-protectors on the shoulders and elbows are standard, and those who want to can easily install a SEESOFT CE-level 2 back protector. The Mantis is also prepared to accommodate a SEESOFT CE-level 1 chest protector.
To be clear, this is not a racing jacket. It just looks like one. That also means that you get a number of inner pockets and two zippered side pockets at your disposal. Some flexibility is also provided thanks to the snap button on the collar, the zippers on the sleeve ends and the velcro strips on the waist. A long and short connecting zipper leave - just like the Belt Loop - just about all combination possibilities open. Our preference would be for a good pair of motorcycle jeans, although there's just as much to be said for full-blown motorcycle pants from REV'IT.
