Choosing a bigger size cannot hurt because the size chart of this motorcycle footwear is tight.
The Fastback Drystar cannot and will not hide the fact that racing is important at Alpinestars. For us, it doesn't have to be at all. This is a waterproof, aggressively styled motorcycle shoe that will get you anywhere (fast).
'Drystar' is the membrane that Alpinestars uses when it should stay waterproof. Experience shows that we can be pretty confident about that. Of course: The Fastback-2 Drystar is still an ankle-high shoe, so don’t expect miracles.
That aside, the Fastback especially stands out externally by an aggressive design, in which microfibre and rubber alternate to be maximally wear- and tear-resistant. The slider (in TPR) reinforces this, also in the design. This looks like an ankle-high performance shoe, and it is. Attention: do not place the Fastback-2 Drystar next to a full track or racing boot. It was not designed for that. We are talking about quality and safe footwear for (relatively) normal use on public roads.
And in that case we rightly use the term high-performance: the ankle protection (TPR) is strategically placed to give maximum protection to the weakest part of the foot. At the same time, you remain flexible and agile on the bike. Accordion fabric at the back, the heel and shoe tongue that received extra padding inside to further increase comfort, while an integrated toe and heel protector continue to provide plenty of protection - it all feels very natural.
With plenty of ventilation and an advanced rubber sole that offers specific grip, support and stability, this is a comfortable shoe in just about any condition.
Opening and closing is done by means of laces. Surprising, perhaps, though the design allows you to safely hide the loops behind the wide flap that attaches with velcro.
The placement of the shifting reinforcement shows the sharpness of the Fastback-2, although the reflective material immediately reminds you of street qualities.
