Description

The ARS link is a type of locking link used to close open motorcycle chains. The locking links of the ARS type are always fitted with a clipand require a certain amount of pressure to put together. When assembling, the side plate must first be pushed over the pins. The clip can be pushed into place with the aid of, for example, a pair of pliers. Then the heads of the pins have to be flattened so that the side plate can no longer be removed. The use of a riveting tool is recommended.

When assembling the locking link, it is essential to thoroughly grease the shafts, the bushes and the O-rings or X-rings of the chain using the supplied packet of grease. This is to prevent stiff links, premature wear or even chain breakage.

After lubrication, place the connecting link with the X- or O-rings into the chain and and press it down to distribute the grease evenly.

After thorough lubrication, the closing link can be closed with the side plate. To avoid crushing the seals, use appropriate tools and measure the distance with a caliper to measure the distance between the outer plates of the other links and those of the locking link. Gradually press the side plate into its final position (see sketch):

Outer plates not tight enough will lead to

  • grease dripping off
  • wear
  • stretching of the link
  • chain breakage

CORRECT ASSEMBLY

Outer plates being too tight leads to

  • stiff links
  • overheating
  • jamming of the chain
  • chain breakage

When the side plate is in place, first check that the connecting link rotates freely and is not pressed too tightly or too loosely. Only then can the clip be riveted in place.

When fitting, the clipmust always be fitted with its closed head in the direction oftravel.
