There is the SMX-6, and there is the Supertech R. In between those two is where we situate the focus of the SMX Plus V2. As a side note, there is also the SMX Plus V2 GTX, a technological champion that is a race and street boot, with a GORE-TEX® membrane. Well, shut me up.
Plus, it looks fantastic. You can combine this motorcycle boot with a full race suit or with (motorcycle) jeans.
The fact that we were already raving about the SMX Plus V2 (without GORE TEX® membrane) says it all. It was already a top boot. And this version adds the ultimate in waterproofing and breathability. It almost renders us silent.
Of course you don't have to, although a moment of peace and quiet to enjoy the SMX Plus V2 GTX won't do us any harm. This versatile motorcycle boot hardly knows its equal.
The accordion panels provide optimal freedom of movement on and off the bike, the ankle brace allows just as much comfortable movement, but supports the ankle in case of a crash. The heel and shin, not coincidentally also vulnerable in a crash, are also made of hard TPU. Reinforcements on the sole and the toes are obvious, just like the shifting reinforcement and the replaceable toe slider. That last one has a screw in it that can cut off a tenth of your lap time. It goes without saying that every part that is structurally subject to wear, can be replaced.
The inner shoe is non-removable, and that is the only limitation. With Kevlar lacing, and consisting mainly of mesh to keep the whole thing - especially in combination with the actual leather motorcycle boot - still ventilated and breathable, this is only one element within the sum of parts. That ensemble is the result of research, development and the pursuit of a perfect fit, excellent feedback, and maximum protection.
Apart from the Kevlar lacing on the inside, on the outside you have a longitudinal zipper and Microlock ratchet closure. Along the entire length of that zipper, an extra strip of accordion material is attached, to offer motorcyclists more space at the bridge.
The SMX Plus V2 GTX is almost certainly only surpassed by the Supertech R, to which it is very close. And apart from that (professional) MotoGP boot, you'll have to work very hard to find a motorcycle boot that's as light, flexible and performant. Or a pleasure to look at. We can't stress enough how much visible and invisible technology is in here.
This is the kind of boot you'll be looking to match your bike with down the road. And in the meantime, you just put the SMX Plus V2 GTX in the living room, to be admired.
