With the Khao Air Lady motorcycle jacket Modeka answers the question whether a summer jacket can withstand a summer shower. The answer is yes, it can. Provided that the motorcycle jacket in question is equipped for that. And in this case the answer is also: yes.
Specifically this Khao Air Lady you can ask a third question: is this a copy of the men's version or a female jacket with its own cut? The clearly centered silhouette suggests the latter.
The Khao Air Lady aims for all weather conditions, without the cold. That’s what it comes down to. It makes this jacket a 2-in-1 for warm days, with a lot of extra features if you ask us. The exterior is not quite see-through and is generously equipped with lots of mesh panels. Just about the entire front, the back, in the back ... the wind has free rein everywhere. That is the intention, although we still want to be able to count on sufficient protection. The 'coat rack' - the frame that holds all the mesh - is made of 450D polyamide. Textile with a high tear and wear resistance. Double-stitched on the areas where the risk of sliding is highest.
And that's it for the outside. YF protectors on the shoulders and elbows, two zippered pockets with velcro on the waist and collar, which we can also mention, just like the adjustment options on the sleeves (push button and velcro). And that’s it. A summer jacket. Full stop.
A summer jacket into which we can easily zip a Humax® membrane. Waterproof, windproof and breathable. Tadaa. And then the whole range of possibilities suddenly opens up again. Because now you're not restricted to that one day a year with fantastic summery weather. Now you can set off in just about any (more or less 'normal') circumstance and conditions and make adjustments along the way without any problems. Now you can suddenly go from riding only in spring to riding until late in autumn. As long as the temperatures do not dip dramatically, you’re safe. Literally and figuratively. The removable Humax® membrane is more than enough for what the weather gods usually have in store.
Keep in mind that the construction of the Khao Air Lady lets the rain get through the outer layer. The water-resistant element is 'limited’ to the membrane, which is incorporated - as we said before: this jacket is not transparent – practically unprotected right underneath the mesh panels. It is still a summery jacket. On the other hand: for this price tag and this quality you'll be seriously more comfortable on a lot of rides.
An optional back protector is always a possibility. The connecting zipper of the Khao Air Lady seems to be made for a smooth connection with the Khao Air Lady pants , and every modern jacket is equipped with reflective material.
