DAINESE has a whole range of possibilities if you are a motorcyclist looking for an adventurous all-round performer that also allows commuters and all-season riders to do their thing. The Tonale D-DRY® fits in seamlessly with the X-Tourer, Tempest 2, Gran Turismo …
The nuances are sometimes small and are mainly situated in price, the way the
waterproof effect is realized, with which material, and the all-round finishing
level. This creates a wide range of products for every budget.
The laminated
Tonale D-DRY® is what DAINESE calls a "road touring" motorcycle
jacket and that makes it clear where the real ambitions lie: thousands of miles,
all conditions, without fail. A laminated motorcycle jacket - like all laminated
motorcycle apparel - the pinnacle in terms of waterproofing. “Like water off a
duck", as we have often used it in this context, but that's mainly because it's
still the best description. The laminated element of this Tonale
D-DRY® is the proprietary DAINESE membrane that combines maximum
waterproofness with a high degree of breathable comfort.
Officially the D-DRY® is called 'XT Laminated Extend Technology' and that's quite a mouthful for the - in four directions stretching - waterproof, breathable, laminated main component of this motorcycle jacket. The outer shell is completed with D-Stone, another DAINESE favorite, and incredibly abrasion-resistant. Because the membrane and shell are one, the removable thermal lining (actually a separately wearable thermal jacket) is sufficient to call this an all-round performer. All-round, with the nuance that a laminated jacket of course never has the same level of ventilation degree as a real summer jacket. No matter how well the two direct vents on the chest do their jobs.
Individual adjustment options are amply available. On the lower and upper arms, DAINESE uses two press studs in addition to the velcro strip and the half-length zipper at the end of the sleeve. Two direct ventilation zippers on the chest and two zippers on the back. Once the membrane and thermal jacket are removed, the Tonale can also be used in summer.
An adjustable flank strap with a buckle allows you to perfectly center the Tonale D-DRY®. However, this is not a very long touring jacket. So do not expect a 'three quarter' allure in this case. And no bulging jacket either. This is rather a short cut in design. The collar closes with velcro but a 'collar hook in the form of a push button is a nice addition.
The Tonale is not the big luggage carrier. A rear cargo pocket and two good outer pockets provide the most storage space. Impact protection is present of course. Everything is foreseen to fit an optional back protector. Also a (double) chest protector can also be fitted quickly in the dedicated pocket of the Tonale D-DRY® The removable composite protectors on the elbows and shoulders are standard.
This motorcycle jacket is - like a few other names in the first paragraph - a serious contender to become your favorite year-round companion. A ‘jacket-pants fastening system' - also known as 'long connection zipper' - leaves a lot of combination possibilities open. Not to the least with the Tonale D-DRY® motorcycle pants.
