DAINESE calls this mid-cut motorcycle boot - with GORE-TEX® membrane - 'low', but that is only noticeable when you put a full-blown racing boot next to it. The Nighthawk is midway between a full option and an ankle-high boot, with a focus on the best of both.
A GORE-TEX® motorcycle boot that combines waterproofness with a high level of protection is not as simple as it seems. Fortunately, there was already a Nighthawk, and it is now being updated in the D1 version.
The Nighthawk D1 is quite an elegant motorcycle boot with a microfiber exterior. Apart from some classic exterior elements, DAINESE makes little to no effort to push the sportiness completely into the background. Why? It's the experience on the track that ultimately produces technologically strong motorcycle boots like these.
The trick to finding the right balance is to put enough soft elements in the right places and integrate as much protective material as possible. The accordion elements at the front and back are essential to keep everything flexible because with an external ankle reinforcement in TPU and a clear ‘hardness’ inside the ankle, this is a good and above all strong unit. The shin, toe and heel have their own impact protection. DAINESE also provided elastic inserts that contribute to the comfort and flexibility.
The Nighthawk D1 looks like leather, but isn't. The rubber outsole has a consciously chosen color pattern. The rubber outsole has a deliberately chosen design and the shifting reinforcement is made of TPU. Getting in and out of the shoe is almost like getting into a sock. The GORE-TEX® membrane only makes sense until you get to the first real opening, so that's about 20 centimeters high on the Nighthawk D1. Add to that a good 3 centimeters of shaft and it’s clear just how high the Nighthawk D1 reaches. The zipper opens across the entire inside of the motorcycle boot and is shielded by a velcro flap.
