The HJC I70 is a sporty and aerodynamic full-face helmet. You get everything you can expect from a helmet, which results in a very decent price-quality ratio.
The I70 was given two different helmet shells to accommodate all helmet sizes, which results in a compact unit. Advanced polycarbonate as a base material yields about 1600 grams, which is not even excessive for a helmet with a built-in sun visor. In terms of shape, the HJC I70 makes no effort to hide the fact that aerodynamics is important.
The first thing that strikes you is the double arrow-shaped chin vent (5 openings) which you open or close with one simple movement. It is part of the 'ACS' (Advanced Channeling Ventilation System) which creates a complete airflow through the helmet. The top ventilation consists of two separate openings, after which the air leaves through the back of the helmet. So heat and humidity should not be a problem. All sliders, slides or click systems used by HJC in the I70 are easy to operate with gloves.
This also applies to the built-in, scratch-free sun visor, which you can flip up or down with the slider at the bottom left of the helmet. The tinted sun visor is an extra buffer behind the transparent, wide, scratch-free and UV-resistant standard visor. HJC developed the I70 with so-called Vision Plus, an extra wide vision field and ditto visor, for more visibility. The same idea can, of course, be found in the sun visor. It is called Wider-Vision and it means: attention to the peripheral vision and a better protection of your eyes against riding wind. An extra Pinlock lens can be found in the box. A treatment of the outside of the visor with Rain-X anti-rain spray improves visibility during rain showers.
The removable, anti-bacterial interior of the helmet is specifically designed to combat moisture. Washing is no problem at all. Cutouts in the right places make it extra comfortable for spectacle-wearers. The nose deflector is of course removable, just like the wind curtain chin. Both are useful and good, so it might be better to leave them where they are. The neck rim is finished with an eye for detail and safety (whiplash).
Fastening the HJC I70 is done by means of a micrometric closure. Adjustable and equipped with a Quick-release system that allows for quick opening.
In some countries (e.g., France) it is mandatory to provide your helmet with reflective stickers. The I70 is delivered without these reflective decals. Reflective sticker sets can be found here.
Maintenance tips:
- Are you reluctant to disassemble the interior of your helmet in order to wash it? You can also clean the interior without removing it with S100 Helmet Interior Cleaner.
- The outside and the visor of your helmet should be cleaned with S100 Helmet and visor cleaner.
Safety above all! Never ride with a scratched or dull visor. Especially at night, scratches cause blinding reflections of street lights and headlights of oncoming vehicles. This effect is even more pronounced in rainy weather. It is best to replace a worn visor as soon as possible. Planning a long trip? Then don't forget to take a replacement visor with you. Never ride in the dark with a tinted visor.
