This price is a stunner for a flip-up helmet. Especially because the iXS 300 is definitely a complete motorcycle helmet, with nothing to complain about.
The outer shell is made of polycarbonate: light and strong. Two properties that are always important for a motorbike helmet. One helmet shell contains all helmet sizes and with a built-in sun visor you can count on 1750 grams. Certainly not too much for a flip-up helmet.
The chin- and (undoubled) top ventilation are easy to operate, even with motorbike gloves. The wind leaves the helmet through the back, where an air vent guarantees the outflow. Its shape accentuates the attention paid to aerodynamics.
The clear, scratch-resistant quick-release visor is basic but good. A visor equipped with Pinlock and the Pinlock lens itself can be purchased separately. The rear, integrated sun visor reaches almost to the nose deflector. The slider to operate it can be found at the bottom on the left side of the helmet.
Opening the system helmet is done by means of the button behind the red piece of fabric, in the chin piece, near the wind deflector chin. That last sentence sounds more difficult than it is: you find everything by feeling. It feels very 'normal' and is smooth to operate. Worth mentioning is the extra locking button to secure the helmet in the flipped-up position. That button is on the left, under the hinge of the transparent visor.
The interior of the helmet radiates quality. With a removable polyester lining you can keep everything tidy and cleaning is no problem. The motorbike helmet has a length-adjustable, soft chin strap with a micrometric closure that can be adjusted very precisely.
A well-designed neck rim reduces the risk of whiplash.
In some countries (e.g., France) it is compulsory to have reflective stickers on your helmet. The iXS 300 is delivered without these reflective stickers. Reflective sticker sets can be found here.
Maintenance tips:
- Are you reluctant to disassemble the interior of your helmet in order to wash it? You can also clean the interior without removing it with S100 Helmet Interior Cleaner.
- The outside and the visor of your helmet should be cleaned with S100 Helmet and visor cleaner.
Safety above all! Never ride with a scratched or dull visor. Especially at night, scratches cause blinding reflections of street lights and headlights of oncoming vehicles. This effect is even more pronounced in rainy weather. It is best to replace a worn visor as soon as possible. Planning a long trip? Then don't forget to take a replacement visor with you. Never ride in the dark with a tinted visor.
