The Alpinestars SMX-1 R V2 is a motorcycle shoe that combines the safety and features of a motorcycle racing boot with the comfort and wearability of a sport shoe. We already felt this way when we got to know the first version, and that feeling has only increased with this second (V2) version.
For those familiar with both versions, this V2 feels sportier. The reworked three-point front closure plays a big part in that. The prominent accordion pieces became redundant and made way for another, brighter forward line. The visual provides the instinctive, that's for sure.
The SMX-1 R V2 is still made from light but abrasion-resistant microfiber, with TPU reinforcements on the heel and ankle, and a replaceable TPU slider at the toes.
Comfort, a long lifespan, a light weight and still very durable. For that, you have to be a racing brand in origin. And admittedly, as far as looks go, the SMX-1 R V2 can pass for a low-cut racing boot. Especially with the external TPU reinforcements and the clean lines. On the other hand, a thoroughbred racing boot is often synonymous with 'a bit of work to put on’ and you don't have that here at all. The SMX-1 R V2 is an ergonomically shaped, streamlined, ankle-high motorcycle boot that combines optimum protection with great freedom of movement and comfort.
The 'toe box' - for lack of a better word - offers not only a high degree of safety, but also a good motorcycle feeling. It appears to be the central idea: movement and comfort, a good feeling and yet maximum protection. They found the thin line that connects all those different features.
The accordion panels in the back, just below the low cutout that spares your Achilles tendon, have gotten sharper. Tighter. Its function - especially in combination with the three-point front closure - remains the same: support and control, in every sitting position and without being 'too' of anything.
The motorcycle shoe opens and closes with a zipper on the inside, protected by a wide velcro strip. As if they want to give the design some extra power, Alpinestars repeats: 'making racers faster since 1963'. Well. Then you know something about motorcycle shoes of course. The three-point closure runs into a second velcro strip.
The double ankle protector, the heel, the shift reinforcement, the compound rubber sole that provides superior grip ... everything shows that this is a top motorcycle shoe.
We recommend regular treatment with a water-repellent maintenance product; this treatment ensures that the shoe does not get soaked and that dirt does not attach to the shoe.
