GORE-TEX® jackets always bring warmth in our hearts, both literally and figuratively, and of course that's kind of the point. This (relative) lightweight is perfectly adjustable and adaptable, offers an abundance of storage space, and is equipped for just about all weather conditions.
In terms of style and features, this Ketchum GTX (stands for GORE TEX®) is aimed at the adventurous touring motorcyclist. They will go to different places in different conditions, have the courage to ride through winter, and will not be put off by a few dark clouds.
Hence the outer, hard-wearing layer as the first line of defense. The technical textile construction is first and foremost wear-resistant and reinforced by external shoulder cups, for example, but it also immediately sets the tone when it comes to weather conditions. The integrated, fixed GORE TEX® membrane is not far off, and neither are the long vertical vents. The long vertical vents can be affixed with a push button, and in combination with the large air outlets at the back, this gives excellent results. If it gets too cold, you can use the removable thermal lining. The durable exterior contains sufficient stretch material to keep it all comfortable, flexible and above all very pleasant.
That in itself is worthwhile, also because it's all tangibly and visibly high-quality, but the real trump is in the individual customization possibilities. The Ketchum GTX got the typical touring cut, which is longer at the back than at the front, but besides that, there are a lot of small and bigger elements which make this jacket fit your body perfectly. The upper arms, the collar, a drawstring at the air vents and the sturdy centering straps are the most important, the way the underarms and the sleeve ends are shaped perhaps the most striking. It's illustrative for the level at which this Ketchum GTX operates.
Should we also mention the magnetic central zipper, which makes moving up and down that little bit easier, and the six good, lockable, spacious and secure storage pockets. Note the mesh pockets in the front, on top of the very spacious 'normal' pockets.
A few sentences about the light weight are in order: 'lighter' is probably more appropriate, as in: for a waterproof GORE TEX® jacket with thermal lining and all these features, it is not so bad. Those who think of 'light as a feather' will be disappointed. This is a sturdy jacket that works just as well at -5 as it does at +30, and which also wants to get you to your destination unharmed.
To do that safely, high-quality impact protection is provided. CE certified Alpinestars Nucleon Flex Plus shoulder and elbow protectors are standard, the optional Nucleon Plasma back protector (level 2 certified) or Nucleon KR-CELLi back protector (level 1 certified) is a choice. The reflective details provided by Alpinestars remain discreet during the day but do an excellent job in adverse conditions.
The Ketchum GTX is a top motorcycle jacket, there is no doubt about that. Alpinestars (more and more) couples their years of accumulated racing know-how to a sleek touring collection, and this jacket is high up in the hierarchy.
With the connection zipper you can easily link the Ketchum GTX to Alpinestars motorcycle pants.
The Ketchum GTX is Tech-Air® 5 ready, so you can easily equip it with this revolutionary airbag system.
