The Headlands motorcycle jacket does not hide its sporty roots, but it clearly has other, broader ambitions. First of all, it's about protection against the weather elements. This motorcycle jacket offers a lot of daily commuting and touring comfort on top of its sleek, short lines.
The outer fabric is an innovative multicombination textile. The main element in it is 600D, known for its excellent tear- and abrasion-resistant properties. It is your first layer of protection against everything the universe throws at you. A second buffer comes in the form of a Drystar® membrane: breathable, waterproof, windproof, bonded seams and often the weapon of choice when we talk about the weather and Alpinestars. Underneath you'll find (removable) thermal lining, while a pair of ventilation zippers and a good, solid mesh lining ensure healthy air circulation.
The Headlands is a short cut motorcycle jacket. Relatively short, because clearly sporty, but of course Alpinestars also wants to value all the efforts described above and so the back is indeed longer than you'll see on a pure race jacket. The overall comfort level of the Headlands follows that dual thought, by the way, and is thus higher than you'll get from a leather speed demon. It actually places this motorcycle jacket among the textile motorcycle jackets that defy daily commuting, and only have to fit in the hottest summer weeks and the coldest winter months.
Individual adjustment options are available primarily via velcro strips. On the upper arms and the flanks, you have enough room to provide an extra layer of clothing and also the collar and sleeve ends are adjustable in this way. The latter is a few inches higher than a pure sports motorcycle jacket, and with attention to ergonomics and a soft finish you can recognize the efforts Alpinestars makes in the field of comfort.
As we almost always expect from Alpinestars (it's not that 'ordinary'), the impact protection is amply sufficient. CE-certified (level 1 EN1621-1:2012) Nucleon Flex Plus shoulder and elbow protectors are standard, and those who wish, can easily integrate a Nucleon Plasma back protector (level 2 certified) or Nucleon KR-CELLi back protector (level 1 certified).
There are no external protection elements. This is yet another illustration of the desire for a good, weatherproof, daily and above all very comfortable motorcycle jacket, more than just a sporty racing jacket.
Two side pockets, a napoleon pocket and several inner pockets provide the necessary storage space. With the available connecting zipper, just about any combination with Alpinestars motorcycle pants is possible.
There is maintenance clothing and then there is clothing maintenance. Good, solid motorcycle clothing is an investment in comfort and personal safety. Invest in the maintenance of it after your purchase and enjoy your gear for longer.
