Sporty, lightweight, super ventilated and combined with Tech-Air 5®, the AST Air V2 is a classy jacket. To put on when you'd rather not wear a jacket at all, and then not regretting it at all.
It doesn't look heavy, and that's strictly speaking the intention: the AST Air V2 is a motorcycle jacket that consists of a wearable coat rack, which serves to hang sufficient impact protection and ventilated materials on it. But to actually achieve that, that's something else. And indeed, half of the sleeves are made of mesh.
The 600 Denier construction offers an abrasion-resistant base. Where your body is most at risk - shoulders, outside of your arms, flanks - this is the first protection. Strategically placed stretch panels and equally strategically positioned mesh material each with their function and purpose complement the whole. The stretch panels specifically take into account the option of using the Tech-Air® 5. The mesh on the front and back, and on the inside of the arms, provide optimal airflow and ventilation.
It eliminates the need for ventilation zippers, as well as additional thermal liners. This is a motorcycle jacket for the summer. Or the south. Whichever comes first. The short cut is sporty but not super tight. You don't have to pull and drag to fit into this one, quite the opposite. A little wiggle room comes thanks to the velcro strips on the upper arms and in the waist.
The removable Nucleon Flex impact protection at the elbows and shoulders is light, narrow and very flexible. The GP Lite system (the external construction on the shoulders) provides reinforcement where needed and when you also know that a CE-certified Nucleon Plasma back protector (level 2 certified) or Nucleon KR-CELLi back protector (level 1 certified) and Nucleon Flex Pro Ci chest protector are among the options, this is still an Alpinestars-worthy motorcycle jacket.
The latter is noticeable in many areas: a slight pre-shaped cut in the sleeves delays fatigue, the slightly longer back with the Belt Loop prevents a bare lower back and guarantees good protection, while the textile trim on the collar adds an extra dose of comfort and illustrates that details really do make a difference from a certain level. You can also add the two zippered side pockets, as many inner pockets and the reflective details.
Waterproof this AST Air V2 from Alpinestars is not. Logically, you combine this jacket with a pair of motorcycle jeans.
