Modeka is a motorcycle clothing brand with an eye for small motorcycle enthusiasts. This Clarke Kids is a modified (read: smaller) version of the Clarke-for-big-people, with the same qualities. When you read that and consider the circumstances in which your smaller passenger will get on, you'll automatically come to the conclusion that the Clarke Kids is an excellent idea.
Don't be fooled by the picture and the category: although this is strictly speaking a hoodie (soft material + hood), the Clarke has just that little bit more to offer. It's not a full-blooded motorcycle jacket either, though. Modeka itself calls it a softshell jacket and maybe that's what it is?
The outside in - you guessed it - softshell is easy. But then: shoulders and elbows got an extra layer of abrasion-resistant textile, which immediately surpasses regular hoodie qualities. In addition, the outer softshell is equipped with a Hitex®-Z-liner membrane. This is an integrated, water- and windproof layer, which extends the range of possibilities. Everything we have described so far, Modeka also provides - apart from the softshell - in a full-fledged touring jacket. On top of that, you will find a removable thermal lining in the Clarke. Then we have just about covered the range of weather conditions. In a hoodie, indeed. Which we hardly dare call a hoodie.
Does that mean you'll be riding this all fall through? We wouldn't think so, although there are moments we doubt that. Fact is that a lot is possible, if the circumstances are just willing to cooperate a little. And you don't look for the extremes. And which small passenger does that? This for example, is clearly not a racing jacket, but WINNER is responsible for the flexible shoulder and elbow protectors. These are CE-certified (EN 1621-1:2012) and, if necessary, can be supplemented by a CE-approved back protector. The latter is optional. This will take you a lot further than you might think at first.
The Clarke Kids can take a beating, just like its big brother. And the little wearer may rest assured: this is proper quality. Two side pockets, a breast pocket and an inside pocket or two. A good central zipper, a ribbed waist and ribbed sleeve ends. A good hood - that's what a hoodie should have - that can be removed (zipper).
On the level of casual motorcycle clothing, the Clarke Kids stands out. By a long shot.
