The Sydney is a pretty competitively priced flip-up helmet. Double homologated, so you can ride it flipped up, and with just about every feature on board. A lot of helmet for little money, pretty much sums it up.
The outer shell is a thermoplastic one, and one helmet shell is enough to accommodate all sizes. Still, the total weight of 1660 grams is - more or less - within limits. Especially because a number of 'weight gainers' are included. Starting with chin and top ventilation, each equipped with a solid open and close slider. In the same style you'll find one at the back, even though GIVI also provided two open air outlets at the bottom. Clearly, a lot of attention has been paid to a good air circulation in the helmet, but also the outside shows clear aerodynamic features.
At the front in the middle you can find the click system to open the helmet, even with a gloved hand and without a lot searching. This goes smoothly and at the top everything clicks into place. It has to, because the Sydney has double homologation and is therefore both a full-face and a jet helmet. Together this makes it a flip-up helmet. You understand, we can feel it.
The visor is transparent and scratch-resistant. All preparations are made for the installation of a Pinlock 70 lens and that's a good thing because it comes standard with the helmet. The Sydney has an integrated sun visor. With your left hand you can operate it in both directions, which doesn't require much finesse.
The Givi X.23 Sydney doesn't do much to hide the internal reinforcements: not when opened anyway, but also at the back you will clearly find the ends of the metal components. No problem, it fits the design.
Inside, everything feels comfortable. The anti-allergic and removable lining is of high quality. With a wind curtain on the chin, a wind deflector on the nose (which you can fit or leave out) and a sturdy chinstrap, the Sydney guarantees a high dose of noise reduction. Which you can determine yourself to a large extent. The soft chin strap is of course adjustable and the closure is micrometric.
For maintenance of this helmet we recommend S100 helmet and visor cleaner for the outside. For cleaning the interior, without removing it, you can use S100 helmet interior cleaner. New visors have received a water-repellent treatment. This treatment is less effective after some time. Restore the water-repellent effect with Rain-X anti-rain spray.
Safety above all! Never ride with a scratched or dull visor. Especially at night, scratches or dullness cause blinding reflections from streetlights and headlights of oncoming vehicles. This effect is even more pronounced in rainy weather. It is best to replace a scratched or dull visor as soon as possible. Planning a longer trip? Then don't forget to take a replacement visor with you. Never ride in the dark with a tinted visor.
