The Defender 3 GTX builds on the Defender and the Defender Pro GTX, which have delighted adventure riders worldwide for years. Clearly inspired by adventure, that won't stop you from setting off in all conditions. Commuters and more traditional flyers will also benefit from this.
This Defender 3 GTX weighs surprisingly little. The quality of the materials used is certainly not the issue here. Or is it? This 3-in-1 consists - from outside to inside - of a smart combination of PWR|shell 750D, PWR|shell stretch and PWR|shell ripstop. They don't come much more durable than this. For completeness, we would like to mention the reflective details, the use of neoprene on the collar and the leather parkskin shoulder pads.
The removable GORE-TEX membrane, underneath, is one of the most recent generation: independently wearable and therefore finished with great attention to detail. The reflective chest logo illustrates that the 3L GORE-TEX jacket can actually be worn without the rest of the jacket. With that in mind, the integration of the waterproof membrane - and the thermal lining underneath - is a little less tight than you might expect. REV'IT! opted for snaps here, rather than the traditional (long) zips to attach everything together.
As an aside, any combination is possible: thermal lining and jacket, with or without a GORE-TEX membrane in between, or simply without a thermal lining. Even without a motorcycle jacket, there are always two options: the membrane with or without a thermal lining. This is officially a 3-in-1, but in practice you can make a multiple of that.
Apart from the above, we take climate change into account, and the Defender 3 GTX offers plenty of options. REV'IT! has increasingly adopted the Fidlock® system, where relatively large ventilation openings are unzipped and secured by means of magnets. This results in two large ventilation panels on the chest, giving the wind free rein. Especially if you open the double exhaust at the back. The ventilation zippers along almost the entire length of the sleeves are also tried and tested cooling channels, and in the Defender 3 GTX especially the central zipper is worth mentioning: you have a second, underlying zipper that connects to a strip of ventilation material along the entire length of the motor jacket.
For a waterproof 3-in-1, the Defender 3 GTX is a lightweight. The typical short REV'IT! cut prevents bulging in the front, while the back was designed to be slightly longer, to properly cover the back. Room to move, comfort, and virtually endless flexibility make this all-rounder a very pleasant everyday companion. REV'IT! has developed a size and cut that allows you to keep everything well-fitting. The Defender 3 GTX can be adjusted any way you like. The collar has a flexi-snap, and the loop that secures the collar has been replaced by a snap button.
In the sleeves, at the height of the upper arm, elastic material is processed. On the lower arms, adjustable straps are used as an option. The same straps can be found on the flanks. The upper ones are also adjustable in height, so that 'it doesn't fit' or 'it rubs' is actually impossible. At the waist you won't find an adjustable cord anymore - it was replaced by two vertical zippers - and as you may expect the sleeve ends also offer a choice (zipper and push button) to wear your gloves under or over your jacket.
The list of storage pockets is impressive. Storage pockets, side pockets, XL storage pocket on the back (with an all-round zipper for expansion, and mesh fabric to "oxygenate" wet gear), interior pockets, even more interior pockets in the removable membranes, a document pocket, and an extra pocket on the left sleeve... We barely have enough to use every storage pocket in the Defender 3. REV'IT! removed the velcro strips from the pockets, and switched to zippers. And thus, to fewer snags between sleeve ends and pockets.
The SEEFLEX™ CE-level 2 certified protectors on the shoulders and elbows, and the wear-resistant outer layer contribute to your safety. The SEESOFT CE-level 2 back protector is optional (this was not the case with the predecessor), just like the SEESOFT CE-level 1 chest protector. Finally, the Defender 3 GTX is prepared for the Segur Neck Brace, which only increases the level of protection. Oh, and we almost forget the laminated reflective elements.
Of course, the short (also in the membrane) and long connecting zipper allow you to combine in all comfort and freedom. The Defender 3 GTX motorcycle pants are undoubtedly the first choice.
