The Alpinestars Ridge V2 Waterproof is a relatively low motorcycle boot with a shaft height of 15 centimeters. Sleek, a touch futuristic perhaps, and phenomenally versatile. You can use it for a day of touring, to the bakery or to your holiday destination.
Some may see this as a high summer shoe, or a low (and therefore lighter) adventure boot, but the Ridge V2 is definitely a phenomenon on its own. Everything you see is meant to be like that. From the soft, sloping shaft opening to the subtle stripe of rubber on the shifting reinforcement. The exterior consists of a synthetic material with durable microfiber. At the back, the long accordion zone stands out, although the front with red accents is the real eye-catcher. As a unit, the Ridge V2 looks streamlined, with few unnecessary frills.
Everything you don't see is meant to be, as well: a waterproof membrane and the under-the-skin racing technology that is pretty much Alpinestars' trademark. Excellent and high-quality protection on heel, toe, ankle and shin as well. Straight from the track, this is high level. The Ridge V2 is a constant balancing act between dexterity, comfort and safety, with each of the three being at a high level. The rigid, hard elements provide a sense of security, while the light weight and practical, very natural-feeling shapes and features underline the ease of use.
Just as invisible at first glance (yes, read that again) are all the efforts made in terms of ergonomics. The sole, the anatomical and removable footbed, the nicely finished and comfortable lining that goes all the way up the shaft, it's all there. Add to that the waterproof and breathable qualities of the integrated membrane and you know: this is a top quality boot.
The reflective accents are subtle. You step in and out of the boot like you would a sock. A sock that opens a little bit further on the side, on the outside. To keep everything closed, you use the double velcro fastener. The Ridge V2 has no zipper.
The vulcanized rubber sole keeps both feet firmly on the ground. Or on the footrests.
