According to Alpinestars, the Fusion one-piece suit is the new technical reference when it comes to one-piece motor racing suits and as soon as we take it off the coatrack, we tend to agree. Top-class racing material, this motorcycle suit, which means that the focus lies on protection as well as comfort.
The balance is maintained. New materials (RIDEKNIT® stretch and the very sturdy MATRYX®) take the lead roles but Alpinestars were the front runners for quite some time already, in motor racing. This Fusion as a one-piece suit in other words, is at the moment of writing, the absolute top-class originating from the Boot.
Besides seamless, RIDEKNIT® stretch panels are also very flexible. In motorcycle suit terms, this means that in this almost entirely perforated, leather harness there is enough freedom of movement to perform at your absolute best. The latter is the key: everything about the Fusion is not just aimed towards performance, the suit itself performs at its best.
The innovative new material used is MATRYX®. Upper legs, torso and hump link the light weight to a superior wear-resistance. And that’s exactly what you want on track: extremes. Lighter dan everyone else. Better ventilated. Safer and sturdier. Quicker.
The same MATRYX® material is what in part defines the design of the Fusion. The, at first glance, rough and sturdy material between the leather basic elements, stands out. That leather is ‘racing grade’ cowhide leather, double-layered where the risks and the potential need are highest. All of this is cut in a typical race fit: you always look like you’re on a bike when you’re wearing the one-piece Fusion. It postpones fatigue during the race but it’s obvious you don’t wear this for a Sunday stroll. The first fitting should be a bit uncomfortable: a motorcycle suit will ‘settle’ and adjust to its wearer. If you can slide in easily from the first go, this is usually not ideal. So, get to working, to reap the benefits of that later.
You are looking forward to faster lap times, no sliders but should it come to that: DFS-armor, the name of the combination of external sliders attached to the top part of this motor racing suit. DFS is integrated almost entirely from the MotoGP and stands for Dynamic Friction Shield. This is usually limited to the shoulder area so the new addition is the exchangeable elbow slider. The external knee sliders are of course interchangeable, replaceable, removable… They are intended to be used, that much is sure.
Internally, Alpinestars goes for – or what did you expect – race-specific GP-R armor, which in itself speaks volumes: soft but proper CE-certified protectors, AAA-class. Track gear. The knee, elbow and shoulder protection come – obviously – standard. There are Bio-Flex Race protectors on the hips. The back protector is something more personal and therefore optional, just like the chest protectors. You can also opt to integrate an Alpinestars Tech-Air®-system in this Fusion. Everything has been prepared for that.
Specific items that we would like to highlight are the forearms and calves that can maximally enjoy the comfort of the RIDEKNIT® stretch material and the fact that you can unzip the entire lining effortlessly from the cowhide exterior, to warrant hygiene between separate top performances. Everything else which we don’t specifically mention, is still Alpinestars and is based on decades of experience on, around and next to almost every thinkable motor racing track on the planet.
Conclusion? This one-piece motor racing suit has everything to drive you towards your maximum performance levels.
We recommend regular treatment with a water-repellent maintenance product. This treatment keeps the jacket from getting soaking wet and prevents dirt from sticking to it. For longer-term maintenance we recommend using a spray for matte leather, so that the leather remains supple.
