REV'IT decided to shelve their existing collection of motorcycle jeans, sent out a bunch of R&D people, and waited for them to return with a completely new range. Here is the result, in the form of a pair of top of the range motorcycle jeans with triple stitching, tons of fashion consciousness, lots of style and most importantly extra safety.
These Dean SF jeans have a slim fit and should therefore fit rather tight. No 'flapping, fluttering water things', but a pair of motorcycle jeans that, thanks to a little extra elasticity and stretch, almost feels like a second skin. And 'jeans' means as much here as 'chino'.
Note the details: the color of the REV'IT! logo on the inside of the central button indicates the CE certification of these jeans. Red is class AAA (and so is leather), blue is AA, and black is still class A for safe.
For those of you who don't know all that much about that: these are still motorcycle jeans, not racing suits. Still, even a certified A-class is always better than a traditional pair of jeans, and in the AAA-class the wear-resistance can be rated twice as high. An 'AA', like this Dean SF is logically somewhere in between.
The height-adjustable (there are two pockets) knee pad is an RV36 SEESMART CE-level 1 knee pad. Sleek and slim, and more pre-shaped than anything REV'IT! has used before. The slight curve is an asset, especially in the close-fitting biker jeans, although every biker pant and biker wearer benefits from a better-designed protector. Especially when, as in this case, they are well-ventilated and fit literally seamlessly in this generation of motorcycle jeans. Protectors like these are custom-made, and come in left and right versions.
Hip protectors are standard from the AA class upwards, and are of the SEESMART type, as is knee protection. That means: flexible, ventilated and tight.
The pockets - here two side pockets and two back pockets - are reinforced at the edges. Not an attempt at protection, but an effort to give the Dean SF a longer lifespan. Experience has taught REV'IT that frayed edges are actually more often the weak spot than effective sliders.
Denim comes in colors and sizes, and these may differ according to taste. The Dean SF exists in a Tarmac and a Sand version.
Another nice detail: the (seemingly leather) label on the back is in this case 'vegan approved' and therefore not made of leather at all. And we've long been fans of the reflective stripe that only becomes visible when you turn over the pant leg at the bottom.
Using the Safeway 2-belt, these jeans can be zipped to your favorite REV'IT! jacket.
