REV'IT decided to shelve their existing collection of motorcycle jeans, sent out a bunch of R&D people, and waited for them to return with a completely new range.
These Reed SF motorcycle jeans have a slim fit, so they should be tight. Note the details: the color of the rivet buttons and the REV'IT! logo on the inside of the central button signals the CE certification of these motorcycle jeans. Red is class AAA (the same as leather), blue is AA, and black is still class A for safe.
In this latest collection of motorcycle jeans, REV'IT! has opted for 'single layer denim'. This is the closest thing to 'regular' jeans in terms of looks and comfort. This is only possible because the materials are now stronger than anything that came before. No six layers of fabric, just one solid base and you're done. In this specific case, the new materials are 'New Stretch Cordura® Denim': wear-resistant, sturdy and yet very comfortable.
Since this is a AAA class, you can count on an extra layer on the seat, the hips, the crotch and the knees, in the form of the PWR | Shield 2.0. AAA motorbike jeans - you can also say 'triple A' - are for now more the exception than the rule. Leather motorcycle pants get the same AAA certification, so it effectively means that you move a serious step forward towards a safe ride.
’What I gain in safety, I lose in comfort' - we hear you think. The AAA jeans from REV'IT! get a stretch lining, and that comes with a lot of comfort and freedom of movement, so you'll be fine. You open and close the Reed with a series of buttons. No zipper.
The height-adjustable (there are two pockets) knee protector is an RV36 SEESMART CE-level 1 knee protector. Sleek and slim, and more contoured than anything REV'IT! has used before. The slight curve is an asset, especially in the close-fitting motorcycle jeans, although every pair of motorcycle jeans and wearer benefits from a better-designed protector. Especially when, as in this case, they are well-ventilated and fit literally seamlessly in this generation of motorcycle jeans. Protectors like these are custom-made, and come in left and right versions.
Hip protectors are standard, as is knee protection of the SEESMART type. That means: flexible, ventilated and tight.
The pockets - here the same five as on a 'normal' pair of jeans - are reinforced at the edges. Not an attempt at protection, but an effort to give the Reed SF a longer lifespan. Experience has taught REV'IT! that frayed edges are actually more often the weak spot than effective sliders.
The REV'IT! Reed SF is a pinnacle in the motorcycle jean segment, and comes in two colors/washings: used medium and dark blue. The wash is a very important consideration when it comes to jeans, and often a personal choice. REV'IT! has opted for a laser-washing process, which in addition to excellent visual results also prevents premature wear of the denim.
Another nice detail: the (seemingly leathery) label at the back is 'vegan approved', which means it's not made of leather at all. And we have been fans of the reflective stripe that only becomes visible when you turn over the pant leg at the bottom.
Using the Safeway 2-belt, these jeans can be zipped to your favorite REV'IT! jacket.
