With the Taran motorbike jacket, Modeka delivers a waterproof textile motorbike jacket that will bring joy to many all-season riders and commuters. In a wide variety of circumstances and with the assistance of the adjustment options while on the road, this 2-in-1 is a budget-friendly luxury.
A luxury that is available in almost every size imaginable.
The exterior of an all-rounder such as the Taran consists mainly of a wear-resistant textile. Modeka chose to go for a combination of 750D Tactel® Cordura, ripstop and 500D Polyamide. Each of those ingredients is light-weight, which results in an unsurprising total package within an acceptable number of kilos and grams. Attention: it’s still a 2-in-1 and it’s a motorbike jacket, so ‘acceptable’ is not the same as, ‘you won’t even notice you’re wearing the Taran’.
An all-rounder such as the Taran should be worn everywhere, all the time. You can adjust along the way, along the circumstances, need or want. Sticking to the outer layer, the first thing that we notice are the wide ventilation panels on the chest. Thanks to the magnetic closure, you can open them completely while riding and create a tangible flow around your body. Long ventilation zippers on the sleeves fit this concept perfectly and you can even leave your collar unhooked with the collar hook (without flapping), which gives even more circulation.
One layer below that, we find the removable Humax-membrane. This water-proof and wind-tight membrane is a familiar face at Modeka’s and is well aware of its duties. Don’t let the absence of a thermal lining get in your way: there are standalone thermal vests, fleece sweaters and jumpers everywhere and even the all-season riders among us will have to admit that thermal lining stay in the closet (too) oftentimes.
Modeka styles it all with an eye for detail and a high degree of finishing. The presence of two proper layers combined with the all-round ambitions of the Taran require a number of individual adjustment options. Again: the range of the size table is impressive but stretch material on the sleeve ends, adjustable straps-with-buckle on upper and lower arms and centring Velcro straps allow for a lot more fine-tuning.
For the solid protective material, you can count on the standard YF-shoulder and elbow protection. With an EN 1621-1:2012 level 1-certification, these get a class AA label. The Taran is ready to fit a SAS-TEC SC-1 back protector, should you want to.
There’s more than enough storage space too. The membrane can potentially be stored in the wide pocket on the lower back. The evident slash pockets and (numerous) inner pockets are practical and easy to close; as a little extra, you even get a convenient little storage compartment for a credit card or the likes on your lower left arm.
The combination zipper allows for a combination with almost every Modeka motorbike trousers.
Below, you will find an overview per jacket size of the appropriate CE homologated SAS-TEC®back protector.
