Don’t be fooled by the picture and the category: although strictly speaking this is a hoodie (soft material + hood), there’s a little more to the Clarke Sport than meets the eye. It’s no full-fledged motorcycle jacket either. Modeka calls it a softshell jacket, which maybe covers it just fine?
This Clarke Sport is not the only fish in this pond: there are a few more possibilities with the Clarke, the Clarke Lady and even the Clarke kids. This Clarke Sport with its external shoulder sliders and white stripes is the sportiest of the bunch.
The exterior is – you’ve guessed it – softshell. The shoulders and elbows got an extra layer of wear-resistant textile, which immediately surpasses any regular hoodie qualities. Furthermore, the softshell exterior has been fitted with a Hitex®membrane. An integrated, water- and windproof layer, which broadens the possibilities extensively. Everything we’ve described so far – apart from the softshell – is what Modeka also puts in a full-fledged touring jacket. There’s even removable thermal lining in this Clarke Sport. This covers just about the entire spectrum of weather conditions so far. In a hoodie, exactly. That we probably wouldn’t dare to call a hoodie now, anymore.
Does this mean you can ride all throughout the fall in this? We’d think not but there are some moments we’d doubt that decision. The fact is that there are so many possibilities when the conditions give in just a little. And you’re not pursuing the extremes. For example, this is clearly no racing jacket but WINNER provided the flexible shoulder and elbow protectors. These are CE-certified (EN 1621-1:2012) and can be complemented if needed with a CE-certified back protector. The latter is optional. Which takes you a lot further than you initially imagined. Don’t forget the external shoulder sliders, either. Again, put them next to a racing suit and they’ll fade out but then again, not many motorcycle jackets take these.
The Clarke Sport can take a hit. And its wearer can rest assured: this is a-okay. Two slash pockets, a chest pocket and one or two inner pockets. A decent central zipper, a ribbed waist and ribbed sleeve ends. A proper hood – important in a hoodie – that can be removed (zip) … At casual motorcycle gear level, this Clarke Sport stands out, head ànd shoulders.
