Sharply priced and a round shape are two characteristics describing this jet helmet. This is a base model that can be very useful under the right circumstances.
That’s obviously a pretty broad statement, ‘the right circumstances’; on the back of an R1 with sparks flying is probably not one of them. This entry-level jet helmet is more of the calm scooter type, for the occasional pillion rider or for those who rarely travel by motorway, looking for fun mostly during the summer months.
This being said: the iXS130 1.0 is a contemporary jet helmet like you’d expect it to be: not a lot of frills, a tight design and a long transparent visor that literally keeps the wind out of your hair if you decide to twist that throttle at a green light. Two polycarbonate helmet shells contain all the motorcycle helmet sizes that are available. This makes things even more sleek and it allows the scale to stop in the vicinity of 1,000 grams. That’s right, one kilogram. No, that is not a lot.
Inside the motorcycle helmet shell, the air circulates thanks to the open (or closed) top ventilation. In the back, air outlets open the gates while you, as wearer, are left with a refreshed head. Always a good thing on a motorbike.
A long, clear, scratch-resistant visor is your primary tool. Opened, closed, halfway, somewhere in between … It’s the visor that determines how you experience it. In closed condition, the transparent visor reaches the underside of your face.
Cheek pads are detachable, washable and removable. This is also true for the rest of the interior, where cutouts for glasses allow you to put on glasses or sun glasses.
The closure is micrometric and adjustable.
In some countries (e.g., France) it is mandatory to have reflective stickers on your helmet. The iXS 130 is delivered without these reflective stickers. Reflective sticker sets can be found here.
Maintenance tips:
- Do you dread disassembling the interior of your helmet in order to wash it? You can also clean the interior without removing it with S100 Helmet Interior Cleaner.
- The outside and the visor of your helmet should be cleaned with S100 Helmet and Visor Cleaner.
Safety above all! Never ride with a scratched or dull visor. Especially at night, scratches cause blinding reflections of street lights and headlights of oncoming vehicles. This effect is even more pronounced in rainy weather. It is best to replace a worn visor as soon as possible. Planning a long trip? Then don't forget to take a replacement visor with you. Never ride in the dark with a tinted visor.
