Alpinestars feels at home on and around the racetrack, and because you obviously don't want to walk around in a one-piece motorcycle suit all day either, they developed plenty of extra features. Most of these are visually clearly sporty, although that does not mean they are not all-round.
The Chrome Ignition is a textbook example of that philosophy.
Surprisingly - well, it's still Alpinestars - a lot of water- and wind-resistant technology has been incorporated. The exterior looks a bit like softshell, but it is not. It is indeed a knitted fabric, reinforced on the inside with aramid for extra wear- and tear-resistance. Apart from that sturdy shell, you also get the Nucleon Flex Plus shoulder and elbow protectors for impact protection. Level 1 and CE certified, it all seems so obvious that we almost consider it normal. The back contains a compartment where you can easily fit a Nucleon Plasma back protector (level 2 certified) or Nucleon KR-CELLi back protector (level 1 certified), if you’d want to. The whole product is CE-certified (89/686/EEC).
The collar is high, the hoodie can be removed quickly (press studs) and on the inside of the Chrome you'll find an (according to Alpinestars) waterproof document pocket. This is not what you would expect from a hoodie, and it illustrates that there is a lot more to it than that.
The Chrome can be perfectly used as a full-blown motorcycle jacket. Especially in Rome, Milan or Turin. In our northern parts, we would be a bit more cautious, especially when it comes to quickly-changing weather conditions, but from the end of May until the beginning of October it is certainly interesting.
The combination with a good pair of motorcycle jeans is obvious.
