The GT-Air already had the necessary credentials, but that did not stop Shoei from pulling out all the stops for this improved successor. And to deliver a new top-quality helmet.
The relatively low weight of this full-face helmet, which clearly has sporty genes, is partly due to the outer shell. The multilayer AIM glass fiber composite (available in no fewer than three sizes for the most compact fit possible) has been further refined in a wind tunnel for optimal aerodynamic properties and fitted with various (small) spoilers (the neck spoiler is new, as are the streamlines at the top), which conduct the air even better. Also new - and linked to aerodynamics - are the cut-outs for Sena's SRL 2 Bluetooth module, which is therefore perfectly integrated into the helmet shell.
The ventilation system has also been thoroughly updated and remains easy to operate, even with gloves on. Three inlets in the front (chin, top, and an extra visor position) and just about five outlets allow for more and better airflow. More air, more breath, more aerodynamics is pretty much the principle. And no, that does not automatically mean 'more noise'. The GT-Air II is a silent helmet. Shoei calls it the optimal balance between airflow and silence.
The visor and the better sealing around it, have a lot to do with that. The transparent visor is large and familiar, because it is the CNS-1 SHIELD, of course supplemented by a Pinlock lens. The GT-Air II is supplied with the new QSV-2 sun visor. This is 5 mm longer than its predecessor and is equipped with a quick lock to make changing or cleaning the visor completely easy. The slider is located on the left, just below the hinge point. It takes some time to find it, but once you get the hang of it, operation is a breeze.
The interior got an update as well. It is removable, washable and can be completely personalized, but it seems to serve a double purpose: to fit well and to reduce noise. 3D, different materials, individual pieces which you can choose thicker or thinner, Shoei seems to have spared no expense on the inside. A windproof chin and the generously proportioned neck rim illustrate that attention has also been paid to the details. The adjustable and soft chin strap - a Micro Ratchet fastener - can be brought forward to experience less pressure on the throat. Oh, and 'Micro Ratchet' is the stainless-steel ratchet fastener which was developed and patented by Shoei, that can be operated quickly and easily (even in an emergency).
In one word we would call this a 'quality helmet'. And we would like to add that this one word is actually not enough.
For maintenance of this helmet we recommend S100 helmet and visor cleaner for the outside. For cleaning the interior, without removing it, you can use S100 helmet interior cleaner. New visors have received a water-repellent treatment. This treatment becomes less effective after some time. Restore the water-repellent effect with Rain-X anti-rain spray.
Safety above all! Never ride with a scratched or dull visor. Especially at night, scratches or dullness cause blinding reflections from streetlights and headlights of oncoming vehicles. This effect is even more pronounced in rainy weather. It is best to replace a scratched or dull visor as soon as possible. Planning a longer trip? Then don't forget to take a replacement visor with you. Never ride in the dark with a tinted visor.
