The Nexus 2 is a continuation of the original Nexus in its purest form. Sporty and edgy, with a buck load of technical properties that make sure this motorcycle boot is an excellent option if you also take the price into account. Yes, that’s right, the price.
The exterior of the Nexus 2 is primarily composed of microfibre (so, no leather) and the high-quality material D-Stone® even though you can’t really miss the thermoplastic polyurethane shin protector. That last term is even a little too restrictive because like a proper exoskeleton, the shiny polyurethane stretches from the ankle all the way to the shinbone. The hinge on the ankle inspires confidence and makes walking a whole lot more comfortable than you’d suspect at first glance. Because the heel is also protected by the same material, DAINESE creates the total effect of external protection with a softer motor boot inside. Visually, the Nexus 2 is still at the top of its class. The design has become even a little edgier. An external ankle that keeps your own ankle out of harm’s way inevitably brings you to sporty, tight and edgy. That’s perfectly okay too, because with the replaceable toe-slider (two Allen screws, key included in the box), the Italians leave little to the imagination: this is a track monster. Its certification (CE-Cat.II-EN13634) is like music to professional pilots’ ears. Shin, ankle, toe… All clear.
Getting in and out of them is actually fun: the zip of the Nexus 2 is in the back, over (almost) the entire boot length. It doesn’t get much easier than this. Two Velcro strips (5 centimetres) on the left and right side of the zip allow you to fit the Nexus perfectly to your lower leg.
The bridge has a long strip of accordion material, which generally contributes to its comfort and flexibility levels. This ensures the top quality of the Nexus – definitely on the motorbike – and even though we wouldn’t wear them for a major hike, they are perfectly fine for taking you where you need to be without your motorcycle.
The rubber sole is more than ‘basic’ and the lining as well as a number of external ventilation openings give the Nexus 2 a climate regulation that combats overheating.
With a significant portion of nylon in the toe and heel, the Nexus is not a waterproof motorcycle boot, just to be clear. There does, however, exist a waterproof version in this theme (Dainese-Water Proof (D-WP)).
