The GIVI X.27 is a double homologated motorcycle helmet that links the best features of the jet helmet to the best properties of the modular helmet. It was awarded the most recent ECE 22.06 certification and a Pinlock® 70-lens supplied in the box, and yet, it is still reasonably priced.
The pedigree of the X.27 runs back all the way to the X.20 and the X.21 and there used to be an X.16 Voyager so this isn’t GIVI’s first swing at it. It delivers a nice total package with a double helmet shell in thermoplastic. These two helmet shells contain all helmet sizes, warranting that the weight of this modular helmet stays right around 1.690 grams. Which isn’t featherlight but sufficiently light for a motorcycle helmet merging all these features.
The double P/J homologation means that you can ride with it while open and closed. One condition being that the GIVI X.27 can be locked in the open condition, which is easy thanks to a slider right below the left hinge. Don’t confuse it with the slider in another direction a little lower, that flips the tinted sun visor up and down. To complete the picture, we mention the Microlock loops on the left and right to mount and dismount – and possibly replace - the transparent visor. Without tools and a lot less complicated than we can describe it here. It all points itself out really. The chin piece is operated with the central lock in front. The fact that none of those buttons and sliders have a remarkable colour doesn’t complicate their use any more than when they would have been brightly coated. The X.27 is standard equipped with a transparent and scratch-resistant visor and you can fit the supplied Pinlock® 70-lens immediately if you prefer.
The chin and top ventilation slides open and closed. The riding wind entering from the front exits through the back underneath the spoiler. In-between, there’s a refreshed head, which is always a plus while riding a motorcycle.
An adjustable micrometric closure makes sure that the motorcycle helmet stays perfectly in place. The soft chin strap enhances wearing comfort. The neck rim, supplemented with an added chin rim promotes sound insulation and decreases the risk of whiplash and the discomfort of too much riding wind. The well-fitting lining – easily removed and washable – of this motorcycle helmet is made to size and hypoallergenic.
The wind curtain chin is, just like the breath deflector, a comfort-increasing addition that can be removed in a split second if wanted.
No kit of reflective stickers is included in the box. The application of these stickers is mandatory in France. Reflective helmet stickers can be found here.
Some maintenance tips: The helmet interior can also be cleaned without removing it, with S100 interior cleaner. The exterior of the helmet is best cleaned with S100 helmet and visor cleaner. New visors have received a water-repellent treatment. This treatment is less effective after some time. Restore the water-repellent effect with Rain-X water-repellent spray. Safety above all!
Never ride with a scratched or dull visor. Especially at night, scratches cause blinding reflections from street lights and oncoming headlights. This effect is even more pronounced in rainy weather. It is best to replace a worn visor as soon as possible. Planning a long trip? Then don't forget to take a replacement visor with you. Never ride in the dark with a tinted visor.
