The HJC C70 is a solid, competitively priced full-face helmet. It is an entry-level model which you can certainly enjoy and you will not discover any disadvantages.
The C70 takes its advanced polycarbonate helmet shell from HJC's IS-17 which has proven to be very successful and is therefore just as comfortable and safe. The different helmet sizes are split between two shells on the C70, which is quite compact. It weighs 1,600 grams, which is not even excessive for a helmet with a built-in sun visor. The shape of the helmet is aerodynamic, with judiciously placed lines that better channel the riding wind.
A decent slide on the chin opens or closes the 'ACS' (Advanced Channeling Ventilation System) which creates a complete airflow through the helmet. Heat and humidity are strongly dealt with. The top ventilation is easy to open or close, even with gloves on. Rear air vents allow all wind to escape with ease.
The slider that operates the built-in sun visor is also situated on top of the helmet. That makes it accessible for both hands. The transparent helmet visor closes well (click system at the front) and is of the scratch-free and UV-resistant variety. Handy. Especially since it can also be replaced quickly and easily without tools, possibly by a tinted or mirrored visor. RapidFireâ„¢ Shield Replacement System, that's what it's called in the world of HJC. A Pinlock® lens is optional. A treatment on the outside of the visor with Rain-X anti-rain spray improves visibility during rain.
The removable, anti-bacterial interior of the helmet is specifically designed to combat moisture. Washing is no problem at all. Cut-outs in the right places make it extra comfortable for spectacle-wearers. The nose deflector is of course removable, just like the wind curtain chin. However, both are really useful and good, so it might be better to just leave them where they are at first. The neck surround is finished with an eye for detail and safety (whiplash).
Securing the HJC C70 is done by means of a micrometric closure. Adjustable and equipped with a Quick-release system that allows quick opening.
In some countries (e.g., France) it is mandatory to provide your helmet with reflective stickers. The C70 is delivered without these reflective stickers. Reflective sticker sets can be found here.
Maintenance tips:
- Are you reluctant to disassemble the interior of your helmet in order to wash it? You can also clean the interior without removing it with S100 Helmet Interior Cleaner.
- The outside and the visor of your helmet should be cleaned with S100 Helmet and visor cleaner.
Safety above all! Never ride with a scratched or dull visor. Especially at night, scratches cause blinding reflections of street lights and headlights of oncoming vehicles. This effect is even more pronounced in rainy weather. It is best to replace a worn visor as soon as possible. Planning a long trip? Then don't forget to take a replacement visor with you. Never ride in the dark with a tinted visor.
