A top of the line motorcycle jacket for women who are often on the bike, or love comfort, or just both those things together. That's the Stella Andes V3 Drystar®. New and improved' is the first conclusion of this jacket. Based on the V2, this is also a smart textile jacket with touring ambitions and especially many assets. Versatile, flexible and smooth are the main words we think of when we hold this Stella Andes V3 Drystar®.
’Stella' is what Alpinestars adds when it comes to a female fit and cut. Again, that is the case here. Anatomically adapted to the lady biker, as it should be.
Waterproof and adaptable to just about any weather condition, this is a very strong motorcycle jacket for those who are often on the track. Alpinestars - traditionally a racing brand - translates the accumulated know-how and expertise into a technically advanced touring collection and that is definitely worth seeing.
To be clear: the Stella Andes V3 is still closely related to its predecessors, in both male and female versions. Alpinestars can't reinvent hot water every year. A notable innovation is that this Stella Andes V3 Drystar® is equipped to fit the Tech-Air® 5. The DVS (Direct Ventilation System) got an adaptation as well. Of course, much was kept. What’s good remains, what can be improved is improved - that should always be the starting point.
With the Stella Andes V3 Drystar® Jacket, you have a 'smart' textile jacket that you can use all year round. The three-quarter length is typical for touring ambitions, just like the fact that the back is just a little bit longer. The breathable and waterproof Drystar® membrane integrated in the outer layer guarantees a dry homecoming. Combined with a removable thermal lining, the weather has to be fierce to scare you off. The renewed DVS - the zippers under the armpits, complemented by the spacious chest pockets that double as ventilation panels - works effectively.
It brings us to the storage space, which, in addition to the two zippable chest pockets, also includes two large side pockets (velcro), a storage pocket on the lower back and a series of inner pockets. Plenty of choice, we think. A lot of that storage space should also be waterproof, although we ourselves - seasoned bikers as we are - don't dare claim that you will be able to exclude all water in all circumstances.
It goes without saying that everything should - no, must - fit well. Although a touring jacket is not a race suit, it should feel quite snug. Alpinestars uses a four-sided sizing system (for the jacket only) and leaves nothing to chance. Of course, every body is different, so you also have plenty of individual adjustment options. One centering belt on each side is enough, they thought in Italy, and that's right, so they dropped the second one (which was still there with the V2). A velcro strap with a buckle on the forearm, a push button on the upper arm and a drawstring at the bottom have remained, and also the collar (velcro) and the sleeve ends (velcro) are adjustable. It ensures that 'not fitting well' is not an option.
Protective materials are present in the form of Nucleon Flex Plus shoulder and elbow protectors. These are CE-certified, of course, and especially very flexible and thin. As in: never disturbing and never limiting. Back and chest protection, looking at the Nucleon Flex Pro Ci chest protectors and Nucleon Plasma back protector (level 2 certified) or Nucleon KR-CELLi back protector (level 1 certified), is optional.
The reflective details are discreet but clearly present and provide good visibility in unfavorable conditions. Alpinestars left the second puller on the central zipper for what it was and kept the details that make the Stella Andes V3 Drystar® a quality and versatile touring jacket: a soft 3D inside of the collar, a 'collar hook' and a combination zipper.
