The Monteira Drystar®XF is the only motorcycle jacket you’ll ever need. At least, that’s how this motorcycle jacket by Alpinestars was advertised here internally. Rightfully so or maybe not; we tend to be more careful with weighty judgments, which means that we had to investigate for ourselves in depth.
The Monteira Drystar®XF is a two-layered laminated motorcycle jacket with eXtra Flow. In practice, this comes down to a waterproof outer layer that – in this case – allows for sufficient air circulation to keep things comfortable. You can add the extra (wide) ventilation panels and the result is indeed an array of possibilities in even more application areas. The benefit of laminating the Drystar® membrane is that the water can never pass the outer layer, ensuring a lighter and quick-drying unit. A DWR treatment (Durable Water Repellent) is another added value during rainy weather. The XF - eXtra Flow – of the Drystar®-membrane is functional in dry and in wet circumstances.
For the whizzes we like to mention the constituents of the outer layer: 450D ‘hard shell’ and reinforcements in 600D in the critical areas. Wear and tear-resistant? Check!
Wide, direct ventilation ports with 'quick hand' activation – a grand term to indicate that you can operate these intuitively at a stoplight and fix them with a magnet – open up possibilities; literally. The wind that glides in through the chest and the arms exits the motorbike jacket in the back, creating the much-needed cooling. The removable thermal lining of 80 grams warrants sufficient warmness on colder days.

The closures, ventilation openings with magnets and wide storage pockets, the magnetic central zipper, the striking sleeve ends with buckles and the adjustable collar allow you to experience a lot of new things during those first few rides. Moreover, it feels natural and evident, turning a quest into a pleasurable series of discoveries. In the collar alone, the additional pushbutton, the self-centring click closure and the internal Velcro are a joy to behold.
The Monteira Drystar®XF is a relatively light motorcycle jacket that hides a dash of robustness. The centring straps, many adjustment options at the sleeves and the slightly longer touring cut provide comfort.
With a fit that is designed to offer the highest level of active protection to the upper body, the Monteira Drystar®XF motorcycle jacket is also Tech-Air®-ready. Bring on the airbag jacket.
In anticipation of that, the used level 2-CE Nucleon Flex Pro shoulder and elbow protectors are already of a high-quality. A Nucleon Plasma back protector (level 2 certified) or Nucleon KR-CELLi back protector (level 1-certified) and double chest protectors are optional and easy to fit. Yes, ‘easy’ is exactly what it is.
