It is remarkable how devices that were updated recently (2022) no longer have a traditional FM-radio, due to the troublesome supply of electronic chips and components.
The reason behind that decision is that it is better to have a proper functioning intercom without FM-radio than no intercom at all, so the least essential element is cut.
This obviously doesn’t mean you have to go through life in silence now: there’s still the option to listen to music through your smartphone or external MP3-player or even to an online FM-station with weblink. It even sounds better, without static. The only disadvantage is that the data usage of your smartphone gets a little boost on the way.
As the numbers go up (3, 5, 10, 20, 30, 50), so do the possibilities of each new SENA system. So, this '30K' version is a more than excellent choice. Not the absolute top but still very close.
In many things this 30K is in line with the 50 version, but there must be a difference and that translates naturally in a number of elements. No FM radio and no included Wi-Fi cable for automatic updates, these are the biggest differences in terms of content. The speakers are not made by Harman Kardon but still HD and the design has also been subtly tinkered with.
The elements that are present remain impressive and you want to attach it to your motorcycle helmet as soon as possible. In this case it's a holder that you attach to the helmet, not the intercom module itself. That just clicks into the holder. The operation of the SENA 30K is done by means of a rotary dial or 'Jog Dial', as if you were scrolling through modules. Apart from all voice control, obviously.
In Mesh Intercom, you can connect with up to 24 drivers at the same time, and the use of Bluetooth 5 guarantees a good, stable connection.
Furthermore, SENA of course continues to build on the familiar recipe that - for all intents and purposes - has always been top-notch.
The 30K is available as a Single or Dual kit. SENA products enjoy a 2-year warranty and are firmware upgradable.
General remark: The world of electronics (which also includes intercoms, smartphones, GPS, etc.) changes so quickly that it is possible that some (outdated) devices are not compatible with each other in certain areas. Unfortunately, the manufacturer can't provide us with data that shows which combinations between intercoms/GPSs and/or smartphones cause problems. A regular update of all electronic devices is therefore desirable to avoid problems as much as possible.
