Where to begin… At the phenomenal technicity if the Stratum GTX? Its versatility? Or are we sticking to the given that the Stratum GTX from REV’IT! redefines the outlines of a motorcycle jacket as we know it? It’s probably all of the above and that’s what makes the Stratum GTX absolute top class; and probably the ancestor of many more.
The price is something to talk about, just like the Stratum GTX itself. You get two full-blown (motorcycle) jackets of unprecedented technicity in one phenomenal package. At REV’IT!, they themselves like to get on their motorcycles, and it shows. Furthermore, they belong to that type of motorbike riders who like to have everything close at hand in that one, convenient package and so they developed a modular system of layers to form and substantialise the Stratum GTX. In layman’s terms this means that two motorbike jackets become one and by combining additional base layers and thermal layers, the equator as well as the North Cape enter the playing field.
It's definitely unique. The Stratum GTX consists of a pedigree GORE-TEX motorbike jacket, wind and water tight that is literally supported by a mesh jacket that contains all the impact protection. Both are ready-set-go and you don’t even need to puzzle to use them to the max. It sounds more complex than it is writing it down. Together, these motorbike jackets reach unparalleled levels of protection on top of that.
Not surprising: every layer in itself is top-quality. The Air mesh jacket serving as a base is AA-certified while the waterproof top layer adds a class B-certification. Looking at the Air mesh layer separately shows a robust PWR|Mesh that kind of reminds us of chainmail. It’s just seventy-seven times lighter and probably even more wear-resistant. The combination of mesh material guarantees more freedom of movement than the average knight ever knew and there is no doubting the wear-resistance.
We also have the ‘standard’ impact protection: SEEFLEX® shoulder and elbow protectors. This keeps the impact protection close to the body and in the desired position. The back protector and a potential double chest protector SEESOFT DC-L1-B should be added separately, should you want that. Everything is ready to fit this.
The laminated exterior consists of 3L GORE-TEX (the most feasible in this field) and has been equipped with a VCS|Ventilation system to be able to tweak quickly on the road, should a complete removal of the top layer not be in the cards (yet). Even the central zipper doubles as one long ventilation opening. It speaks for itself that every ventilation zipper is also waterproof. Correction: it doesn’t speak for itself at all but there it is. Lubricating the ‘Tizip’ zippers every now and then is a good idea. Another extra element in this water and windproof GTX layer is that there’s also a removable hood. Not necessarily to wear on your motorbike but ideal for when you step off because this layer is a perfectly wearable standalone raincoat. One with a layer of wear-resistant Armacor® on the shoulders.
Technically, this works. And it works well. The details are phenomenal at times. Bikers at REV’IT!, that explains things. The inner layer is prepped to fit a Kriega Hydrapak® while you can easily place your parking ticket or bank card in the compartment on the exterior of your left sleeve. The integrated kidney belt – yes, sirree – was also supplied with a storage compartment and can evidently be removed. There’s a key ring in the right pocket of the exterior layer to make sure your keys don’t take off on their own when you look for them with your gloves on, while you can find a microfibre cloth to clean your glasses in the left breast pocket of the inner layer.
Let’s continue, shall we? Neoprene on the collar. A ‘protective print’ on the forearms as an additional protective measure, the large storage space on the lower back, the thumb loops and elastic sleeve ends, the subtle reflective print and individual adjustment options in the waist.
The Stratum GTX by REV’IT! redefines the motorcycle jacket. The combination with the eponymous and developed according to the same principles Stratum GTX motorbike pants makes total sense.
