It is kind of an odd duck, this Offtrack 2 H2O. With the same name as its predecessor but a whole lot of differences. Fans of the Sand motorcycle jackets from REV’IT! might start doubting themselves and although the name suggests a true offroad adventure, this is perfectly fine for the asphalt as well.
Usable on many terrains and in many circumstances could be an attempt to summarise this jacket. This is definitely an adventurous touring jacket on many terrains. More than you’d expect at first glance and it’s very well-constructed. More offroad than its asphalt brother, the Sand, but also lighter, phenomenally ventilated and better suited for the physical hard labour. Plus, you stay dry when it rains. And warm! Wait, let’s start at the beginning.
The Offtrack 2 is actually three (motorcycle) jackets. No, really: three. From the inside out you will find a removable thermal lining that you can wear perfectly on its own – thanks to a clean finish. On top of that, there’s the H2O layer: a removable, waterproof 3L-Hydratex membrane that again can double as an autonomous jacket.
Another layer and we arrive at the most visible layer of the motorcycle jacket, characterised by its wear-resistant 600D, lots of ripstop, more than enough perforation and a couple of wide ventilation panels, in short: a balanced mixture. 600D polyester takes care of the wear and tear resistance while 3D air mesh and areas of PWR|MESH provide additional (permanent) ventilation. Everything well-balanced and applied to the right places. On the inside, we notice the soft mesh lining. The total result is a soft, light and flexible motorcycle jacket. As final layer.
What it is you wear under that protective external layer; you choose in function of the circumstance. The Hydratex can slide over everything, the thermal lining fits directly into the exterior or you leave the Hydratex membrane in place and apply the classic 3-in-1 formula. There’s proper protection in every composition, in the widest sense of the term. Through all weather conditions and over every surface.
The cut is a typical ‘touring’ cut and therefore longer than a motorcycle racing jacket, but you have to give it to REV’IT!: no matter the version, they always strive for tight and close-fitting. So, expect a three-layered motorcycle jacket that fits closely around your upper body. Again, you are the one in charge because as tradition dictates, the Dutch provide a whole lot of adjustment options. Straps with slide buckles on the sides (two on each side), sliders on the lower arms, a press stud or two on the upper arms, an adjustable collar with YKK pushbutton at the top and drawstrings at the base of the motorcycle jacket.
It makes us wonder whether the Offtrack 2 H2O prefers to look for the essence of the somewhat more adventurous riding but without hardly any shortcomings. Plus, it casts doubt on the convinced fans of the Sand (2, 3 and 4) to maybe take a little detour for once.
Protection comes in the shape of standard SEEFLEX-level 2 CE-protectors on shoulders and elbows and if you want, you can easily fit a SEESOFT RV or SEESOFT Air CE-level 2 back protector. The Offtrack 2 H2O is also prepared to be fitted a SEESOFT CE-level 1 chest protector. Reflective material is present, but subtle.
There is sufficient storage space in the Offtrack 2 H2O. Two large pockets in the front (Velcro) and two chest pockets that double as ventilation panels, a wide cargo compartment with mesh lining on the lower back (for instance, to store a wet membrane) and there’s at least one inner pocket in each layer.
A short and long connecting zipper allow for many perfect combinations, although it seems obvious to us that whoever wants one unit, will prefer the eponymous Offtrack 2 H2O trousers. If you want to go for the complete set, then the matching motorcycle gloves are an interesting option.
