‘Gold. Top. Perfection.’ These are three words from the Poseidon GTX’s description. This is the precursor of the Poseidon 2 GTX, that in turn forms the basis for this Poseidon 3 GTX. Three times. Three times, a phenomenal motorcycle jacket was improved, thanks to its users’ direct feedback.
Someone of these motorbike riding adventurers must have informed REV’IT! that the Coat hanger on the back of a motorcycle jacket of this calibre should be a little sturdier. Or that the chest ventilation should be placed a few centimetres higher for that added effect when you’re sitting behind the windscreen of that adventure motorcycle. And that a map pocket on the left sleeve is also a convenience… Those are the three most striking functional adaptations to the Poseidon 3 GTX.
Just like its precursors, the Poseidon 3 GTX remains an adventurous motorcycle jacket that you can also use to commute to work every day. Just like you do your Transalp, KTM or Versys. Let’s put it differently: there aren’t many things you cannot do with the Poseidon 3 GTX. Well, when it comes to motorbike riding, that is. The laminated GORE-TEX guarantees 100% waterproofness, and every other thinkable feature is present as well.
Laminated GORE-TEX means that a waterproof GORE-TEX membrane has been attached (laminated) directly onto the outer fabric. This makes sure water can’t get in, that the motorcycle jacket doesn’t get too heavy and that it dries easily. You can hardly get any closer to perfection when it comes to rain protection. The zippable (hence, removable) high GORE-TEX collar that connects nicely to the helmet was a striking one last time and this has stayed. Makes sense because it still ensures that water doesn’t seep in your motorbike jacket from your neck. We are no longer talking about a few drops or a rain shower: this was designed to withstand a deluge.
On the outside, the two layers of GORE-TEX are supplemented and reinforced with 400D, 3-layer stretch material and SuperFabric®. To name a few. Every specific spot was given the best material to offer the best possible protection for that area. Or purpose. All of this combined, you get a premium jacket that feels robust and solid, without being overweight. REV’IT! has optimised the weight and the flexibility of the Poseidon GTX line before and this third version still reaps the benefits of that effort.
Still on the (ventilated) exterior, you can find the improved, innovative VCS | aquadefence system with FidLock® magnetic closure, which gives excellent ventilation when open. Or should we say: “which gives an even better ventilation, thanks to the improved position”. You can easily waterproof close each ventilation panel with a single hand. The ‘aquadefence’ consists of a little ‘gutter’ around the ventilation opening that prevents moisture to find its way in. In the meantime, a removable thermal lining provides comfort and warmth during cold rides, while the traditional VCS|Zipper system supplies several additional ventilation openings.
‘All-round’ with regard to weather conditions is actually an underestimation when it comes to the Poseidon 3 GTX. Still. You can wear this from the tanning bed to the shower. Pay attention, though: the strong magnets don’t work well with pacemakers, so when in doubt, it’s best to inquire about that.
The Poseidon 3 GTX has a relatively short cut – they love that at REV’IT! – even though, as expected, the back has a wider finish. The stretch material guarantees a lot of leeway while the rest remains nice and tight. You centre this motorcycle jacket on the sides with a double, length-adjustable strap. It’s almost impossible not to adjust the Poseidon 3 to your body’s liking. The number of adjustment options has been distributed nicely: sleeve ends (Velcro), upper and lower arms (adjustable straps with buckle), collar (flexisnap) and waist (drawstring). The multitude of storage spaces matches the previous list. A back pocket, slash pockets, inner pockets and storage pockets: everything you might need, is provided on the Poseidon 3 GTX.
We have surpassed the 3.700-character mark – a lot more than we used to describe the previous versions – and we haven’t even discussed impact protection yet. We could go on and on about that too. And yet. We could also go for simplicity and say that it’s at the same high level as the rest of the Poseidon 3 GTX.
Standard, the Poseidon comes with SEEFLEX™ Level 2 CE protection on shoulders and elbows. The back is prepared to integrate an optional SEESOFT™ RV or SEESOFT™ Air CE-level 2 back protector, and if you want, a SEESOFT™ CE-level 1 chest protector. This concerns the less visible impact protection, because we repeat: the Poseidon’s exterior is all wear-resistance. The typical, laminated reflection on the back, the sleeves and chest ensure visibility in the evening and at night. The Poseidon 3 was designed to be combined with the Connector HV-jacket, should you want even more visibility.
You can combine this with the right motorcycle trousers thanks to the short and long connecting zipper. And even though ‘right’ is not the same for everyone, the Poseidon 3 GTX motorcycle trousers are an excellent choice in this case.
