With the Trohn motorcycle jacket, Modeka markets a robust, waterproof textile motorcycle jacket that will bring joy to many all-season riders and commuters. In a wide variety of circumstances and thanks to the adjustments options on the way, this 2-in-1 is a budget-friendly top-class model.
The exterior of an all-rounder like the Trohn consists primarily of a wear-resistant fabric. In this case, Modeka went for a combination of Cordura® ripstop and 500D Polyamide. Two light-weights will obviously deliver a light motorcycle jacket. Attention: this is a 2-in-1 and it’s a motorcycle jacket, so ‘light’ means something else here than ‘you can hardly feel you’re wearing the Trohn’. What are we missing? Nothing, but in his closely-related cousin, the Taran motorcycle jacket, Modeka adds a touch of Tactel for a softer finish. That’s not the case here, which is why the intro said ‘robust’.
Nevertheless, an all-rounder like the Trohn can be worn anywhere anytime. You adjust it along the way, along the circumstances, need or necessity. If we stick to the outer layer, what first jumps out are the wide ventilation openings on the chest. Thanks to the magnetic closure, you open them up completely during the ride, creating a perceptible flow around your body. Long ventilation zippers on the sleeves fit this purpose seamlessly.
One layer below that, we find the removable Humax-membrane. This waterproof and windproof membrane is an old friend of Modeka’s and carries out its duties wonderfully. Don’t let the absence of a thermal lining be an obstruction: there are separately-wearable thermal vests, fleeces and sweaters in abundance and even the all-season riders among us will have to admit that a thermal lining will stay in the closet far too often.
Modeka shapes all this with a clear eye for detail and a high level of finishing. The presence of two proper layers requires, together with the Trohn’s all-round ambitions, a number of individual adjustment options. The range of the sizing table is impressive but the stretch material on the sleeve ends, adjustable straps-with-buckle on upper and lowers arms and centring Velcro straps allow for even more refinement.
For the rugged impact protection, you can count on standard YF shoulder and elbow protection. With an EN 1621-1:2012 level 1 certification, these are awarded a class AA label. The Trohn is prepared to fit a SAS-TEC SC-1 back protector, should you want to.
There’s more than enough storage space. The membrane can be stored in the wide pocket on the lower back. The evident slash pockets and (many) inner pockets are practical and properly closable and as a bonus, you get a convenient little storage compartment on the left lower arm to store a credit card or something small.
The connecting zip allows the combination with Modeka Trohn motorcycle trousers.
