With the Oliwer, Modeka presents a motorcycle… shirt. Not that it makes us hot under the collar, because the Oliwer is a little different from the other shirts in our closet.
This cotton fabric motorbike shirt has aramid fibres and two thin protectors on board. Just to say that the Modeka Oliwer could pass perfectly for a light motorcycle jacket. Which in reality, it simply is, with a central zip, impact protection, a Belt Loop and three pockets. And yet, it looks like an overshirt.
That changes a little once you take it off the rack. The 10 ounce heavy ‘Active Twill Denim’ – 98% cotton and 2% elastane – with DuPont™ KEVLAR® reinforcements on the shoulders and elbows, places quite a lot of weight in the scales for shirt standards. This shouldn’t surprise, with all the wear-resistant qualities it implies. It can throw some weight around, which inspires confidence to go for a ride in this Oliwer. The impact protection consists of a double set of Flying Bats® protectors. Ultrathin, CE-certified, level 2 and – of course – effortlessly supplemented with an optional SAS-TEC® back protector. All combined, this awards a class AA registration.
Storage space can be found mainly in the chest pockets and is expanded by an inner pocket. The central zip – the ultimate criterium to speak of a motorcycle jacket, covered by a row of press studs – runs all the way to the top, carefully closing the collar. On the sleeve ends, there’s another press stud and zip but there’s no need to go look for phenomenal adjustment options: pick the right size and go.
The Oliwer is not waterproof. Nor is it a mesh motorcycle jacket. Summer? Well, probably, because it’s definitely not the opposite.
‘It’s a shirt!’ we can hear calling in the distance, and that is probably the closest to it.
Below you will find an overview per jacket size of the appropriate CE homologated SAS-TEC® back protector.
