The long, heated motorcycle gloves responding to the name Breva are mainly Softshell. More specifically: softshell takes care of the typical wintery look & feel. In this case, however, it’s a good thing to look past the fur of the polar bear.
That fur of the polar bear may be white, surprisingly enough, the skin hidden underneath is black. With a South pole to North pole extended sense of analogy we could say that there’s a whole other appearance underneath the softshell of this Breva. Wowza.
Stick 86% polyester and 14% spandex together in the shape of a hand, incorporate an integrated membrane and you get the Breva motorcycle glove.
The impact protection is relatively limited to a (flexible) knuckle protector and the extra layer on the palm. The latter creates excellent grip. It all adds up, with a little extra grip on the fingertips and a fixed polyester lining that is not excessive so that you can actually feel which button on the handlebars you’re operating.
So far for the bear’s white coat.
Each Breva motorcycle glove’s long cuff hides a storage compartment for a (compact) battery that is linked to the B-Warm system by means of a single contact point put in/underneath the Softshell by BERING.
With an LED light, the battery shows how much power it has left but the actual heating is operated through a pushbutton on the cuff. This can easily be done while on the road, riding along, at a stoplight or even on the highway. Just push and the button changes colour. Every colour indicates a temperature and if we tell you there’s four different colours, then you know the number of heating settings: from 1 to 4, from 25% to 100%, from blue to green and yellow to red, or from 32 degrees to 51 degrees Celsius. Of course, every setting requires energy which more concretely delivers two hours of heat in setting 4 or up to eight hours in setting 1.
Draining your battery completely takes up to 3.5 hours to recharge. This is done with the supplied cable in a regular socket.
The two 7.4V/1.5A batteries are included as standard, as is a charger. The Breva is EN13594: 2015-certified and is an excellent, comfortable winter glove with an extra dimension.
Since these gloves contain electronic components, it goes without saying that they cannot be put in the washing machine. A gentle hand wash is possible, provided you dry the connectors with a hair dryer after washing.
