The IXS 209 1.0 is a sharply designed and just as sharply priced enduro motorcycle helmet that has everything a helmet should need. And maybe even a little more than that. There’s no room for doubt with a price tag like this one, when you are looking for a motorcycle helmet for advanced fun times. Definitely when it also complies with the new ECE 22.06-criteria.
The IXS 209 1.0 has a sturdy helmet shell in polycarbonate. One helmet shell contains all helmet sizes, which delivers a weight of about 1600 grams. Pretty impressive for an enduro motorcycle helmet with peak and integrated sun visor.
The central chin ventilation can be opened and closed, the two mesh grills left and right cannot. No need, because the chin piece has the typical enduro/dual sport/cross front, which delivers more than enough oxygen and air, heart palpitations and muscle contractions. At the top, IXS works with fixed grills and not with an adjustable top ventilation. This is what makes the IXS 209 1.0 just that little less ideal for a soaking wet highway ride – which isn’t its favourite terrain anyway.
The clear, scratch-resistant quick-release visor is basic but good. The integrated sun visor behind that leaves a little room between the chin piece and the breath deflector when pulled down. We repeat: gulping air and seeking a little cooling is always an option. The slider (bottom left) can be operated easily with motorcycle gloves. The interior is of the soft and pleasant kind, with a clear attention – again! – for proper ventilation and climate control that is on point. Everything is obviously removable and washable.
The Double-D ring makes sure that the motorcycle helmet stays perfectly in place. Add the sturdy neck rim, the soft chin strap, a nice wind curtain chin and an easily removable (or attachable) sun peak and it is clear that this IXS 209 1.0 is a high-quality enduro motorcycle helmet that complies with the most recent ECE 22.06-standard – at a razor-sharp price.
Maintenance tips:
- Are you reluctant to disassemble the interior of your helmet in order to wash it? You can also clean the interior without removing it with S100 Helmet Interior Cleaner.
- The outside and the visor of your helmet are best cleaned with S100 Helmet and visor cleaner.
Especially at night, scratches cause blinding reflections of street lights and headlights of oncoming vehicles. This effect is even more pronounced in rainy weather. It is best to replace a scratched or dull visor as soon as possible. Planning a long trip? Then don't forget to take a replacement visor with you. Never ride in the dark with a tinted visor.
