This sporty full-face helmet by IXS has – additional to a very interesting price – a whole arsenal of assets and qualities. This means that the IXS217 1.0 is a candidate for when you are considering a motorcycle helmet from this low-threshold category. Obviously, the IXS217 1.0 is completely in line with the ECE 22.06 criteria.
The outer shell of this IXS217 1.0 is made of polycarbonate (light!) and by integrating all motorcycle helmet sizes into two helmet shells, the scales stops neatly somewhere under 1500 grams. Absolutely acceptable for a full-face helmet with integrated sun visor. The motorcycle helmet shell has been designed – compared to earlier versions and similar models – somewhat tighter. An aerodynamic spoiler with air outlets. Those are not just for show because the ventilation openings in the front are wide and plentiful. Adjustable, easy to operate and in three-fold at the top, complemented with one central chin ventilation below.
The integrated sun visor covers just about half your face. The slider for this visor can be found on the left side of the helmet, at the bottom. It is assisted by the transparent visor, quite handsome and perfectly see-through. Scratch-resistant, ‘quick-release’ visor, Pinlock®-ready … They don’t get much more practical than this and definitely not at these prices. The Pinlock®-lens you need to buy separately.
The chin piece of the IXS217 1.0 is solid. Reaches high. It gives the IXS217 1.0 a robust, sporty, solid appearance. With a wind curtain chin, a wind and breath deflector and a removable, high-quality lining/cheek pads, you get everything you’d expect from a motorcycle helmet. Wearers of glasses need not worry: there are cut-outs for you.
The micrometric closure is soft and adjustable and the well-finished neck rim decreases the risk of whiplash injury. Good motorcycle helmet!
In some countries (e.g., France) it is compulsory to have reflective stickers on your helmet. The iXS 217 is delivered without these reflective stickers. Reflective sticker sets can be found here.
Maintenance tips:
- Are you reluctant to disassemble the interior of your helmet in order to wash it? You can also clean the interior without removing it with S100 Helmet Interior Cleaner.
- The outside and the visor of your helmet should be cleaned with S100 Helmet and visor cleaner.
Safety above all! Never ride with a scratched or dull visor. Especially at night, scratches cause blinding reflections of street lights and headlights of oncoming vehicles. This effect is even more pronounced in rainy weather. It is best to replace a worn visor as soon as possible. Planning a long trip? Then don't forget to take a replacement visor with you. Never ride in the dark with a tinted visor.
