Alpinestars earned most of their stars and stripes around a racetrack, where they still feel totally at home. It doesn’t dissuade the Italians from continuously bringing out strong all-rounders. The second version (V2) of the ALPINESTARS T-SP 1 is a prime example of this: waterproof, made of textile, sporty and stylish, with an obvious nod to tight racing.
Exchanging leather for textile would cause genuine motorcycle racers to turn up their noses, although there’s no doubting the daily qualities of the 600D multi-material used here. Softshell stretch adds another – comfortable – dimension to that. If you expect, based on its lines and cut, a very tight-fitting, preformed and rigid motorcycle racing jacket, then you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
The T-SP 1 V2 is waterproof thanks to its integrated membrane. Strategically placed ventilation openings on the (side of the) chest seem to be somewhat hidden, but there’s also the removable thermal lining to vary with. The cut is still short. Lines are tight. It should be clear that this was inspired by the racetrack. There’s plenty of storage space. Two zippable exterior pockets, a waterproof inner pocket and no less than 4 additional inner pockets, if you leave the thermal lining in place.
In short, not actually touring, but there’s no complaints. Not actually racing, either. The most prominent adjustment options are limited to the belt loops in the waist and the traditional zip-with-Velcro at the sleeve ends, something we do recognise from the track: tight and short, without any frills.
Impact protection is of the highest quality. Nucleon Flex Plus CE Level 1-protectors on elbows and shoulders come standard. An optional Nucleon Level 1 or Nucleon Level 2 back protector can be integrated quickly and effortlessly, as is the option to fit chest inserts.
The motorcycle jacket can be combined with a whole collection of trousers from the Alpinestars range thanks to the connecting zip.
