Say what? Wooden knee sliders? As a mantle piece or a trophy at the annual knee slider competition by Motorcycle Club The Weavers?
Not at all, wooden knee sliders are actually a thing. They last longer than their synthetic counterparts and they provide more feedback to the motorcyclist. There is, however, one condition to experience both of these benefits: they need to be made from a sturdy wood type. A sheet of triplex will get us nowhere.
For that reason, IXS manufactures these remarkable wooden knee sliders from hornbeam, the hardest west-European wood. If you leave the traditional, shorn hedge to grow as it pleases, it will become a 15-metre tall tree with wood that’s extremely split-free, tough and hard. Ideal for windmill wheels, pianos, tools, chopping blocks and hence: knee sliders. In other words, it’s not the material – it’s what you use it for.
These knee sliders are used in exactly the same way as any other. There’s a Velcro strip at the back and the shape of the slider neatly follows the shape of the knee.
