The MODEKA Matlock has a classic style and appearance. Very British is the first thing that comes to mind, right before thinking of a Bonneville or a Royal Enfield. There’s a certain timeless feel to any waxed jacket that always seems ready to head for adventure.
It shouldn’t surprise that MODEKA decided to categorise the Matlock in the ‘heritage’ collection. This homage to the past effectively mixes old-school style with a number of modern features. The waterproof and removable membrane literally adds something extra – a layer.
So, the Matlock is a 2-in-1. The exterior is 65% made of cotton, supplemented with polyester and amply supplied with water-repellent wax material. The latter originates from ‘Millerain’, one of the oldest manufacturers of this typical British product, which evidently contributes to the very authentic look and feel. The rest of this 2-in-1 consists of a removable Humax®membrane, which you may choose to stow in the typical storage compartment in the lower back.
The wear and tear resistance of the Matlock is fortified by providing sufficient material in critical areas, if need be, in the form of a doubled layer. For instance, pay attention to the patches of diamond-stitch on the shoulders. Of course, there’s always impact protection. B-Protect® protects the shoulders and elbows. You can optionally integrate a back protector.
Visually, the Matlock has lots of pockets, compartments, slots and zips. Buttons and buckles, those too. These often serve as individual customisation option (centring strap, sleeve ends, collar) but nonetheless, they do determine the final style. The zips act as double agents on the chest and sleeve ends as direct ventilation openings. Whether you’ll be riding it into high-summer bright and shiny is a different matter: the British wax motorcycle jacket probably leans more towards spring and fall. A little bit of island weather is probably what the MODEKA Matlock does best.
The odds are that style and functionality go hand in hand with this MODEKA Matlock. Which is quite alright.
