The Stella Andes Air Drystar® are motorcycle trousers that focus on… versatility. Well. We wouldn’t be able to describe mesh motorcycle pants with waterproof membrane any better. Many options, in style as well as in application.
Alpinestars chooses to indicate female motorcycle clothing with ‘Stella’ in the name and to add a few accents where needed. It’s just a fact that a female body is not a male body. Anatomy, preformedness … There’s not much to teach the men and women on the southside of the Alpes when it comes to customised motorcycle clothing.
The traditional outer layer of these motorcycle trousers consists of a combination of 2D mesh, stretch panels and more than enough hard-wearing material to keep all of this together. We specifically wrote ‘traditional outer layer’, because waterproof membranes usually hide underneath that layer. Here too, although it doesn’t have to. The waterproof membrane of the Stella Andes Air Drystar® can be worn over as well as inside the motorcycle trousers.
The waterproof Drystar®-membrane is lightweight, breathable and yes, waterproof. It has been finished a little neater and better – because it can be worn over and inside the pants – than we could have expected from waterproof membranes up to a few years ago.
By ‘playing’ with the membrane in function of the precise weather conditions, you only enhance your own comfort. Inside the trousers, like we are used to, it serves as an additional layer in the morning or evening, and you don’t have to worry about those few strays drops, either. If water comes thrashing down from the skies, we suggest you wear the membrane over your actual motorcycle trousers and avoid having to travel with wet motorcycle clothing long after that shower.
Doesn’t this sound like the ideal pair of touring motorcycle trousers? Well, that’s because the Stella Andes Air Drystar® do come near. The absence of a thermal layer might annoy winter riders but other than that, these actually are versatile and multipurpose motorcycle trousers.
In the waist, there are two Velcro straps that allow for customisation. At the bottom of the pant legs you can open the motorcycle pants halfway up your calf in order to facilitate getting in and out of them with your motorcycle boots on.
The cut is good. Lightly preformed pant legs, lots of stretch material and cargo pockets as storage space. Nucleon Flex Plus Level 1 protectors on the knees come standard. Impact protection on the hips (Bio-Flex) is possible – this is foreseen – but is still optional.
There is maintenance clothing and then there is clothing maintenance. Good, solid motorcycle clothing is an investment in comfort and personal safety. So invest in its maintenance after your purchase and enjoy your gear for longer.
We put the best tips & tricks on this maintenance page.
