REV'IT decided to shelve their existing collection of motorcycle jeans, sent out a bunch of R&D people, and waited for them to return with a completely new range. Here's the result, in the form of a pair of top of the range motorcycle jeans with triple stitching, tons of fashion sense, lots of style and most importantly extra safety.
This Carlin SK is a skinny fit. Tight, in other words. And then a little more. Just enough to make sure the blood keeps flowing, fashion-conscious, and a definite eye-catcher, which in this case is also comfortable to wear, thanks to sufficient elasticity.
REV'IT! has opted for 'single layer denim' in this latest collection of class A (and also AA) motorcycle jeans. This is the closest thing to 'regular' jeans in terms of appearance and comfort. This is only possible because the materials are now stronger than anything that came before. No six layers of fabric, just one solid base and you're done. In this specific case, the new materials are 'New Stretch Cordura® Denim': wear-resistant, sturdy and yet very comfortable. And also: one layer.
The color of the rivets and the REV'IT!-logo on the inside of the central button also indicate the CE-certification of these jeans. Red is class AAA (which is also the class of leather), blue is AA, and black is class A, which still stands up well as safe.
The Carlin SK is an A-class, and for those of you who don't know much about that: these are still motorcycle jeans, not racing suits. Still, even a certified A-class is always better than a traditional pair of jeans, and in the AAA-class you can estimate the wear-resistance to be twice as high. An 'AA' is logically somewhere in between. A pair of motorcycle jeans combines this wear resistance - which is important - with a number of other specific properties, which makes them more comfortable to wear on a motorcycle.
The pockets - the same construction as in 'normal' jeans - are reinforced at the edges. Not an attempt at protection, but an effort to give the Carlin SK a longer lifespan. Experience has taught REV'IT! that frayed edges are actually more often the weak spot than effective sliders.
The height-adjustable (there are two pockets) knee protector is an RV36 SEESMART CE-level 1 knee protector. Sleek and slim, and more contoured than anything REV'IT! has used before. The slight curve is an asset, especially in the close-fitting motorcycle jeans, although every pair of motorcycle jeans and wearer benefits from a better-designed protector. Especially when, as in this case, they are well-ventilated and fit literally seamlessly in this generation of motorcycle jeans. Protectors like these are custom-made, and come in left and right versions. Hip protectors are optional.
The 'wash' of a pair of jeans is important, and often a personal choice. REV'IT! has opted for a laser-washing process, which not only produces excellent visual results, but also prevents premature wear of the denim. Denim comes in colors and sizes, and these may differ according to taste. The Carlin SK comes in blue denim, used washing.
Another nice detail: the (seemingly leather) label on the back is in this case 'vegan approved', so it's not made of leather at all. And we've long been fans of the reflective stripe that only becomes visible when you turn over the pant leg at the bottom.
You wear it with a pair of sneakers and combine it with a hoody or leather motorcycle jacket.
By using the Safeway 2-belt, these jeans can be zipped to your favorite REV'IT!-motorcycle jacket.
