This compact and convenient Tanklock saddle bag – a ‘Tailock’, depending on where you place it – offers a surprising storage capacity. Being compatible with the GIVI S430 universal Tanklock attachment (sold separately) it is supposed to go on the pillion or the luggage carrier, although you can turn it into a backpack relatively easily.
Placing this Tailock on the tank would be too much of a good thing. There’s ‘compact’ and then there’s the EA147: also compact but storing 30 or even 38 litres in it will require a rather hefty base. We’ll stick to placing this bag from the Easy T family behind our back. Whether that’s your back or the passenger’s back doesn’t really matter. This saddle bag is perfectly comfortable on a luggage carrier as it is on the pillion. For that reason, it was given a soft backrest. The little storage compartment that holds the latter, also doubles as a storage for the fluorescent yellow rain cover.
Wherever you place the EA147: it keeps your valuables within reach. Don’t be mislead by its compact tortoise-like shape: the zipper that opens it all around also heightens it, allowing the full 38 litres to be in use. In the main compartment, we might add. Just like a tortoise, on the outside everything seems to be one unit. The main storage compartment is equipped with a long zip with two pulls. By combining the openings of these two pulls, you can lock the tankbag with a small lock. There’s a mesh panel in the pre-shaped lid that allows an additional partition. At the base, the folded and stored shoulder straps take up a little space. Indeed, this Tailock can easily be converted to a comfortable backpack.
The GIVI EA147 is made of preformed hard 1200D polyester and panels that are coated with a scratch-resistant layer, creating a pretty sturdy and durable unit. Reflective details enhance visibility in the evening and at night.
The standard dimensions of this partly preformed GIVI are 32 cm x 42 cm x 21 to 29 cm high, containing 30 litres, to be unzipped to contain 38 litres, GIVI claims.
